Last year ds got a junior scalextric and he loves it! He also got lots of cars but he's car mad so may not suit all. His favourite present was a car transporter from ELC.

Thread from a couple of weeks ago with some suggestions.

My son will be 2 and a half and will be getting something from Happyland. I was looking at the farm too. His dad is getting him the pirate ship. He'll be getting some books and a stocking with some wee things in it (cars, 2 waybaloo beanies, crayons, stickers, wind up bath toy).

Aaah! Sorry, I'm crap at links.

My 2yr old boy has got the farm and loves it. Jigsaws and books here along with paint and a balance bike. The tunnel from ELC from last year is his favourite toy so that might go down well. Musical instruments as well here.

SeriousWispaHabit · 25/10/2010 21:35

Regarding the kitchen, if you think he'd like it and play with it then get it. A lot of stuff is only labelled as age 3+ because it is actually quite difficult to pass the tests to make it for under 3s. DD1 had a kitchen for her second birthday and it is the most played with toy. I know another boy who also had a kitchen around age 2 and also plays lots with it.

We have the ELC plastic one and it's great (also my best ever Ebay bargain at £5.73 in perfect condition).

yay glad to see that people are saying the farm is good, thats what my ds 2.4 at xmas is getting.

elc also do a playmobil zoo which looks really good

just search playmobil zoo 123

Last Christmas DC 2.2 got a large selection of toys.

Toys that he still plays with on a weekly if not daily basis are

elc marble run, elc button threading, tesco wooden train set, cheap pirate play set from the swag shop, his tiger torch that roars, his building vechiles (a 3 set from Argos), elc bath crayons,

Things that he loved on a day to day basis whilst he was 2 - plastic seesaw, train set, scooter, bike, bath crayons, books, wilson carry case and dye cast chuggington trains, dyecast hand held aeroplane.

Here's Fairy Armaddillo's link for you. Good thread with lots of ideas.

Dobbo79 - does your DS have a wooden train set? My DS is two and loves his. There are a lot of good starter sets around which you can get accessories for on future Christmas/Birthdays.

Agree with SeriousWispaHabit on the age range for kitchens. I've bought DS a kitchen for Christmas which is age 3+ but I'm quite happy that he'll be fine with it.

NannyPatsSausagePlait · 26/10/2010 09:14

Get him hardly anything. He is 2. Save your money in an account for him for when he really needs something

choccyfiend78 · 26/10/2010 09:35

Another vote for wooden train sets, my DS got one for his 2nd birthday and absolutely loves it! It is the first thing he goes for in a morning and when i pick him up form childminders on a night he always tells them that he is going home to build his train set :) He has the one from Ikea which is £7 and you can buy extra sets to add on to it. If you want to keep adding to them then they will fit with the ELC ones and brio as well (but brio is expensive!!)

My son will be 2 and a half at Christmas. He's getting a scooter with peppa pig on it. 3 wheeled plastic thing from Argos and a night garden train. He'll get his stocking (got loads of ideas from here) and that is it!

hidinginthecupboard · 27/10/2010 00:01

Wooden train set definitely, my mum got DS the John Lewis one for Christmas when he was 20 months and nearly two years later it is still played with every day (and has had a lot added to it!) Keeps him happy for ages, 18 month old DD also likes it.
