Gifts for nursery staff??

We've just moved back to the UK after a few years abroad and our DCs are in nursery 3 days a week. Do people normally give nursery staff a small gift at Christmas and if so, is that key worker only or all staff in each DC's group (8-10 people!).

I buy a big tub of biscuits or chocolates for the nursery staffroom. In my DD's nursery the keyworker doesn't actually mean a great deal, and I think it would be a bit weird to get gifts for everyone. This way I can say thank you without going OTT.

Hi
I usually just buy a tin of chocolates for everyone, and send xmas cards individually for those whose names i know!!

I usually send biscuits for the staff room and then buy a nice mug (but cheap, Cath Kidston or something) and stuff it with hot choc sachets and marshmallows for ds's 2 main carers (whom he loves).
I do this for school teachers too (they are probably well bored with it Grin)

When my two went to nursery I used to send in a tin of sweets and a bottle of wine from each child. I got the feeling that all the gifts were pooled and divided among the staff just before Christmas. I found that although they had set workers for each room, they were always changing throughout the year as people left and went on maternity etc so I didn't like to buy for individual girls, as they were really looked after by all the staff at some point.

I don't buy wine for nursery staff since the time I'd just picked up BIL's customary bottle of brandy for Christmas and it fell out of my bag at collection time Blush

Nice jam went down well last year, champagne and strawberry. Also the little jars of retro boiled sweets.

My ds has just started nursery and I have got his teachers a bit box of thorntons chocs to share and was going to get his key worker an m&s voucher as shes great but dont know if a voucher will be well recieved any ideas???

I usually buy a nice bottle of wine (something on 1/2 price in Tesco!) for each of the members of staff in ds's room (there's 4). Any pregnant staff members get a nice box of chocolates.

It seems to have gone down well for the last 3 years!

I used to work in a nursery pre children and yes we would collect all the boxes of chocs and bottles of wine and share them out on the last day. The odd few boxes would go in the staffroom but it was always the same greedy people that would eat all the nice chocs first!

Small individual gifts were always nice to recieve but obviously depends how many you are buying for.

Presents I remember were a small scented jar candle each, Mugs, posh bottles of bath stuff.
A few parents would donate to our xmas staff party instead of giving a gift.

The3Bears I gave DS' key-worker a M&S voucher and she loved it. Very M&S sort of person Smile

Good point actually. Last year was the first year DD was at nursery and so I sent DH with Celebrations or some such. They made a joke about putting them with the others Blush so am trying to think of something different this year.

how about a christmas card with a lottery ticket inside?
