Is anyone thinking of going out for their Christmas dinner?

We did this a few years ago and would never do it again. The meal was mediocre and tepid as it was obviously mass catered.

The portion sizes were also pretty small, far better to relax at home imho.

nope were going out christmas eve at 4pm for dinner £12 adult £6 for child for 2 courses way more reasonable than the £60 head on xmas day ,And know portion size is good and very local across the lane

then xmas day we have pizza make sfor very easy stressfree day

GetOrfMoiLand · 18/10/2010 10:11

Oh God no - I would never do this in a million years.

You can eat out any day. Why choose to do it on Chrostmas day, when it costs a fortune and the waiting staff hate you.

Just cook a Cgristmas dinner at home, it's not that stressful, is only a jumped up roast dinner.

I know a family who decided to go off-piste and go for a curry on Christmas Day.

They all ordered their curries, which came with, yes you guessed it, roast potatoes, sprouts and gravy........

MaMoTTaT · 18/10/2010 10:19

I may do this year, exH is having the boys after I've taken them to church, bringing them back early/mid afternoon......so they're having lunch out.

So I'll be all on my own for "lunch" time.

My parents always said they'd never eat out at Christmas, but have done in recent years.

The3Bears · 18/10/2010 10:41

No it just wouldnt feel like christmas for me :)

neverenoughMEtime · 18/10/2010 12:51

No i wouldn't like to! I love to stay home over Christmas. I wouldn't want to be anywhere else. We used to go out for dinner on christmas eve with ALL the family, and we used to go to outinlaws to visit on christmas day but i hated going out especially on christmas day! So we stay in now :)

GeekOfTheWeek · 18/10/2010 14:34

No

I pig out that much that I need to take my pants off undo my button and lie down.

Can't do that in a restaurant Wink

tefal · 18/10/2010 15:20

Did it once and never again! Was to quite a good place but we didn't eat until 3 pm meaning no champers with breakfast or lunch due to driving.

Much happier at home.

pickledbabe · 18/10/2010 15:25

I wouldn't do it - I don't think it's fair on the staff - why should we get Christmas day off and they don't?
:(

Hulababy · 18/10/2010 15:27

We went out to a restaurant one year, when DD was 3y IIRR. Was me, Dh and DD and we went to place that was walking distance. It wasn't massive and the food was lovely. We were very impressed - infact our Christmas meal there was actually nicer than our meals that we have had there before and since.

It wasn't cheap but it was very nice. We would do it again if there was anywhere within walking distance so we didn;thave to drive afterwards.

Hulababy · 18/10/2010 16:26

pickledbabe - many people work on Christmas Day. Usually theyy know it is part of their job when they take the job on, and most of those in jobs such as restaurants and pubs get paid double time to work on Christmas Day too. We also tipped VERY well.

pickledbabe · 18/10/2010 16:30

I know they do. And I know there are a lot of people that don't get a choice.
But I just couldn't bring myself to do it.
(i also try not to need to go to A&E on christmas day too! Grin)

GeekOfTheWeek · 18/10/2010 21:24

I have to work over xmas Sad

I wish people would stop having babies over the festive period. Its so bloody selfish Wink
