Am I unrealistic/mad?

I would love to have both mine and DP's immediate family up to ours over Christmas - maybe new years day. He was initially excited about the prospect and then decided I was mad due to the size of our combined families v the size of our house!

We live in a 2 bed terrace. The reception rooms are quite small (2 of them) but we have a large kitchen. I would love to have everyone up for some buffet food and a get together. Am I being silly or should I push ahed and organise something. There would be a total of about 17 of us, a few which may not be able to come so realistically probably 12.

go for it- sounds great. We have family over Christmas, sometimes as many as 30 in our place its always a laugh

They can squish in surely? But it's no fun to not have enough plates or chairs and remember you'll already be cramped with a tree and HUGE new toys (maybe that's just toddlers) all over the floor.
Could you do stand-up drinks and mince pies or nibbles for a few hours? I don't see why that wouldn't work?

Thanks Lilly! :) I really want to and I'm sure it'll be fine! It was DP who is doubting if it's possible! My mother used to cook Christmas dinner for 17 at one point in our three bed semi so I'm sure this can be done!

I have the Lakeland Christmas cookbook and want to cook everything in it! Blush

Tippy - we don't have children yet so that's something - no new toys! lol!

I was thinking stand up drinks and buffet type food, mainly because all our family live a couple of hours from us and we would want to feed them something substantial if they travel to see us!

Oh well then, squish them in. I have a tiny 2 bed bungalow and have always lived in small houses since being a grown up, you can't let it stop you having fun.

i have all my family over for xmas day, they come mid morning and stay until 9pmish. i live in a 2 bed terrace with 2 reception rooms and a galley kitchen. usually there is anything between 10-18 of us and we manage,(i have one ds)not everyone comes for lunch but they all are here for tea which is always a buffet. we never have enough chairs but the younger ones of the family just sit on the floor on big cushions and let the older ones have the seats,it always ends up as being musical chairs anyway with people going out for cigarettes etc, no one cares where they sit as everyone has a good time.

It will be fine.

We had some fabulous parties when we had our terraced house.

If you have quite an enclosed yard how about a gazebo, patio heater and a few chairs? Weather permitting obviously.

Wine, may I hijack to ask about the fabric swatches, please? We need to know! Smile
