Different wrapping paper for presents from Father Christmas?

I always do this to help keep the Legend that is Father Christmas.

My friend thinks it's overthinking and a bit anally retentive.

What do you do?

Yes to Father Christmas wrapping paper. My parents live in Scotland and we are there for Christmas this year. This is going to take some major planning for me to achieve it all. My mother will be having instructions nearer the time on buying FC wrapping paper and when we arrive on Christmas Eve it will be frantic wrapping of the presents we have had sent via Amazon.

Something to think about the fact that parents have to pay Santa for the presents that he brings ...humm

MackerelOfFact · 12/10/2010 09:49

I do this, and so did my mum before me. It's always the cheapest, naffest, flimsiest paper - and I don't wrap everything anyway. They also get a book and a Christmas-themed cuddly toy at the top of their stockings to try and keep them in bed a little longer!

With us, it's just the stockings that are from Santa. Most of the presents under the tree do appear during the night, but I'm just going to be vague about that. I believed in Santa into my teens for far longer than is normal, so I'm just going to go with what I was brought up with, since it clearly worked!

MumInBeds · 12/10/2010 09:53

I think I must win the slack mum award - Santa/stocking pressies are not wrapped at all.

BudaisintheZONE · 12/10/2010 09:57

I do it too.

When i was growing up Santa never wrapped and usually left the prices on. Quite often missed things out and we were chivvied into the kitchen so that Dad could go back upstairs and unearth the forgotten presents from wherever they were hidden!!

I wrap presents from Santa in different paper from present from us. I don't wrap the stocking stuff but I do agree that having 2 stockings is a brilliant idea. I have done it the last 2 years and it makes life SO much easier.

charlieandlola · 12/10/2010 10:01

Absolutely. Stockings and one or two presents wrapped in different paper for each child , then different again for presents from us. Each adult gets their own present wrapped in different paper too. FC only brings presents to children .

It's a challenge judging how many rolls of paper to get for each child and as for smuggling the leftover F C paper out of the house, don't go there !

tummytickler · 12/10/2010 13:20

Father Christmas only fills stockings (sometimes they overflow Blush), and always wrapped in cheap, Father Christmas paper. I wrap everything in brown paper, so it has to be very different and much more fun than that!
Stockings are hung on the living room fireplace before bed, then father Christmas fills them and carries them up to the bedroom of each child and leaves them on the end of the bed. It really is so nerve wracking! Especially trying to put dd1 on her bunk bed!

YanknCock · 12/10/2010 14:19

Had a thought about this subject this morning. Are you all also disguising your handriting on the tags? That's where my mother tipped me off. Her 'S' and Santa's 'S' were suspiciously alike. Grin

tummytickler · 12/10/2010 14:27

I do not write much, and whatever i do write is in capital letters. I do not put tags on, just a name on the paper.

jenpet1 · 12/10/2010 22:38

I've always done it to help out Santa. You might have an analytical child who will smell a rat!

marriednotdead · 13/10/2010 07:55

No tags = no evidence Grin

But we have small stockings with their names on. Bought DDs in a market (23 years ago) where they wrote the name on in glitter while you wait Have used hers as a template to make the others (including DDs best friend who seems to have become a regular here for Christmas in recent years) and they are all looking well considering I'm no amazing seamstress their ageSmile

The more I read this thread, the more nostalgic I get
Youngest DCs are 13 so no-one believes in FC anymore, but they are all strangely keen to continue with my the traditions.

Father Christmas only brings stocking here and one gift, stocking gifts are wrapped in tissue paper or cheap wrapping paper, big gift is wrapped in nice paper and the rest (from me) in what ever paper I can find.

wendz86 · 30/11/2020 15:42

I do this although don't think my kids have ever noticed, they haven't commented anyway!

AdventCaroline · 30/11/2020 16:22

I always do this, and my DC definitely notice.

I always use plain, shiny paper, a different colour for each child. The presents are just for the stockings, so no need for tags.

Presents under the tree are always in a mishmash of reused paper from previous years, so very different.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 30/11/2020 16:41

Your friend has some weird ideas! It would be very odd if FC and his helpers happened to use the same wrapping paper as the family.

In our house they were always wrapped a lot less carefully than family presents, too, but that’s hardly surprising when you think how many millions of them poor old FC has to deliver around the world.

thelegohooverer · 30/11/2020 16:57

I’ve always used different paper - each dc’s gifts are wrapped in a paper that reflects something about them so there’s no confusion about who opens what on Christmas morning.

I take a lot of pride in my wrapping and my gifts are a thing of beauty. The elves, on the other hand, are atrocious wrappers.

UndertheCedartree · 30/11/2020 17:00

Father Christmas just brings the stockings here and I don't wrap them as the stocking acts as the wrapping.

UndertheCedartree · 30/11/2020 17:04

My DC hang their stockings on the fireplace downstairs so no creeping in to their rooms!

Bemystarlord · 30/11/2020 17:04

Yes i have always done this! I remember as a child seeing the wrapping paper in my mums room and i was at the age of not being sure and it just tipped me over into realising it was her doing the presents.

Lucindainthesky · 30/11/2020 17:11

Yes. Father Christmas wraps his presents in that cheap stuff that comes in flat sheets. Presents from us are in naicer wrap. This is how my mum did it and I always thought the father xmas wrap seemed so magical because it was slightly alien to the house!

Creepertime · 30/11/2020 17:32

Yes to special FC a paper here too. He fills the stockings and gives 1-2 inexpensive but special gifts only here. The rest of the presents are from us/family and we either deliver them ourselves or send them to FC to deliver.

NoWordForFluffy · 30/11/2020 17:34

We do the same as you! 🎅🏻🎅🏻🎅🏻

HerbErtlinger · 30/11/2020 18:52

Yes I do, that's how I figured out he wasn't real. I found a collection of wrapping paper and told myself if my presents from FC were wrapped in that paper, I'd know he wasn't real.

I try not to write tags but if I do, I ask my friend to do it so the kids don't recognise my handwriting Grin

TheRubyRedshoes · 30/11/2020 19:06

Yes!! Dd 1 was always spotting it out and about I had to source paper from somewhere she would never go!!

Dd 2 I don't think would make that connection

TheRubyRedshoes · 30/11/2020 19:08
