DH has 3 elderly aunts, all of whom live alone having never married, so they have no family of their own, and they are generous with presents for our DCs

I am right out of ideas for what to get them - up to £10

in the past 15 years we have done-
biscuits/chocolates/hankies/plants/sherry/ ginger wine/port/notelets/writing paper/smellies soaps, handcream etc/ jams and preserves/luxury cake

I am racking my brain for a new idea instead of just going back to the start of the list

they are not into trinkets and ornaments etc

any suggestions?

Audio books. We got these for DH's gran who is in her 90s and has bad eyesight. She loved them. We do the audio book, box of chocs and fav. liqueur combo with strict instructions that they are to be enjoyed together.

oh yes, audio books a very good idea

a really warm but thin scarf (large rectangular one to go under coat collar) although maybe a bit ££££ for a nice woolen one

lambswool or cashmere bed socks?

wool berets?

photo frame with photo of them in it with your dcs??

new wash bags?

manicure sets?

sometimes you can get good ideas from old-fashioned optician where they stock lots of accessories:

  • fancy chains for glasses
  • fancy spectacle cases
  • A4 magnifying "sheets" that you lay on top of books or newspapers

I've made my elderly relatives cushions or pillows in the past that have gone down well (did triangular ones last year for sitting up in bed)

Oh yes and one popular present was an LED torch - to keep by the bed at night

Cath Kidston has some pretty retro purses and cups and saucers here and here

Any good?

Books or audio books (nice comfort murders?), DVDs of classic films like Arsenic and Old Lace, Kind Hearts and Coronets, Mrs Miniver, subscription to The Oldie, indoor bulbs, silk vest, Slanket (or non-branded similar), non-slip slipper socks, lavender oil,

my 80yr old nan loves her Grace magazine subscription so I've just paid up for the next year - £12 - here

I agree audio books from the book people or a massive good quality fleece throw was adored by ours.
