Making Christmas hampers?

Thinking about making little hampers for everybody this year. I am quite skint but it would be a good way of making the cheaper things look much better iyswim?

I have seen some lovely ones for sale on facebook, but I need to keep costs down.

Does anybody know where I can get cheap baskets and that clear packaging stuff from?

Thanks in advance Smile

baskets - tkmaxx,reasonably priced aswell.
to keep the cost down, why dont you buy a few items each week when you do your normal weekly shop, thats what ive been doing, then i wont have to pull out all at once Grin

I bought some flat-ish baskets from 'What'. I don't know if they have them everywhere - it's like a giant £stretcher. They cost £1 and are perfect for hampers. A gift box/decorated shoe box would be good for hampers too. You don't have to use the lid so you can see everything that's on display.

I don't know about you'd get the packaging from. Ebay maybe? Maybe a florists but not sure how much it'd be. Or if you used a gift/shoe box with the lid you wouldn't need any further packaging!

'Birthdays' had some very reasonably priced gift boxes last Christmas. Also, Dunelm has some quite nice ones but they sold out of the size I needed very quickly.

Didn't think about a shoebox!! That may be a really good solution! Could at least use it for kids ones, done in wrapping papper!

I have loads of shoe boxes here Blush - possibly because I buy too many pairs of shoes!

Last year we made a hamper for parents in law and used a large cardboard box which we covered in Christmassy wrapping paper. Bought lots of lovely though not too unusual food stuffs and some fun silly bits too - went down a storm. No one knows what to do with a hamper once you have opened it. We were given one for our daughters birth filled with baby things, it was great but the hamper is now used to store her tiny toy bits as it's a bit useless. Cardboard box wins my vote any day.

Where are you? You can have mine!!

mogs0 · 08/10/2010 21:07

Or ask in a shoe shop. Lots of people don't take the box when they buy shoes.
