awww that is CUTE!! im DDs making xmas pud truffles for her teachers this year (nigella recipe) or a nice decorated cakeSmile

Plant a hyacinth bulb or two for her? Personally I can't stand them, they smell to uriney to me. DD did this for her teacher a couple of years ago. An old bowl and a hyacinth with some winter pansies. Teacher seemed to like it, although on second thoughts she did leave it in the classroom over the holidays.

I was going to offer my poncetastic bulbinavintageteacup idea but Kreecher beat me. Snowdrops or paperwhite narcissi are nicer than hyacinths though.

tulpe · 07/10/2010 22:17

I think teachers would prefer even a cheap bottle of wine to a teacup full of flowers. Whilst we adore our little ones' handicraft efforts, I think Miss or Sir prefers something to wind down with after a busy few weeks of nativity rehearsals and overexcited children. Let's face it.......so would we :o

I wouldn't tulpe and I'm a teacher, same as most of my friends and family. Neither would the ones that don't drink for religious reasons. The OP is looking for home-made ideas.

nickschick · 08/10/2010 07:38

Truffles i think.

We made tia maria ones one year and the teacher actually offered to buy them from me Blush- I did over measure the tia maria thoughWink.

My mindees for parents last year made herb oil,

A bottle of nice olive oil, (Open and take a little bit out), then put mustard seeds, black pepper seeds, garlic and springs of rosemary in them.

Peel off the label and make a homemade label.

They made a chilli one when Father Christmas came to our party, and gave it to him.

( Very nice too, said Father Christmas)

tulpe's idea has home-made potential though. You could use glue pens/stickers to decorate the bottle and make it all sparkly?

Make it a little santa hat from some felt and a white pompom?

Make this to put it in?

Or you could make gingerbread men and ice them?

Buy her a cheap mug and fill it with those little sachets of hot chocolate you can get and some marshmallows and chocolate sprinkles?

Tippychoocks · 08/10/2010 08:04

Good point blathers, or a decorated bag. I did mean the looking bit in my post to be in case you'd missed it on the OP Tulpe (and thought we were mental), not in a sarky way btw.

Most teachers would be delighted at anything to be honest.

I had some (very) homemade fudge a year or two back that was lovely. Presented on a paper plate with drawings round the edge.

asdx2 · 08/10/2010 08:50

Good ideas here.Dd likes to have a hand in making the gift and as it's from her then think she should have some input. Not mean as such but wouldn't buy teacher a gift myself and definitely don't want to get into the competitive gift giving that happens at schoolHmma homemade gift seems to avoid all that Grin

It's madness isn't it asdx2? I bought for 50p an Emma Bridgewater teacher gift mug at a charity shop this week, it was going to be a joke gift but as they're £20 on Ebay I may think again!

Blatherskite · 08/10/2010 09:05

pinched from the Poncetastic Chrostmas thread :)

Blatherskite · 08/10/2010 09:07

blimey my typing is awful this morning. I need more sleep!

mogs0 · 08/10/2010 19:13

Blatherskite - I have 4 bottles of red wine ready to make those kits up! I bet they'll still be down the side of the fridge in the new year because I've forgotten to do them!

PaulineCampbellJones · 08/10/2010 19:15

Marzipan fruits. Fun to make and delicious.
