DD was 4 last week so the stuff we will do:

salt dough decorations
Hand and foot print reindeer
Making tags from old cards
Making cards
sponge painting (we have some Christmas sponges from a car boot but you could potato print) wrapping paper
snowflakes and strings of dolls
paper chains
Making a christmas log (large chocolate log that looks a bit like a Christmas poo)
Paper plate angels

Lots more but I have to go and pick up from preschool. I will be back...... Grin

Thanks Tippy, there's enough there to get me started. How do I do paper plate angels?

You cut into the sides and make two thirds of the plate a skirt by stapling it together at the back. Then the remaining third you cut into an angel from the waist up.

I bet this won't be a link but try here:

Tippychoocks · 06/10/2010 13:32

oooo, I can do links now. Yay me.

tassisssss · 06/10/2010 14:08

i am ridiculously excited about the nativity playdough cutters that I've bought from ebay

we're going to do the letters of HAPPY CHRISTMAS in salt dough out of the new letter cutters my mum's getting me for my birthday and stringing them along the fireplace like Kirsty A did last year

reindeer dust

tealight candle holders from air drying clay cut in a star shape with a large star cutter and painted gold

truffles

and we make baby Jesus in mangers using jelly babies, rich tea fingers and rolled out fondant icing...these are VERY popular with my littlies!

Tippychoocks · 06/10/2010 14:52

tassisssssssssssss. I honestly hope you are serious about the baby jesus sweeties. I long to have a go at this. DO you have a link to the finished article?

lucysmam · 06/10/2010 15:22

ooh, thank you very much, will be back after tea time armed with my pen & paper. Think I'll keep some for Advent calendar activities though.

deadly serious. i believe i read it in a book. you can do shredded wheat and choc mangers to look like straw if you can be bothered. I like to have a bit more baby Jesus than Santa in my kids Christmas so this works for us and as I said they love it.

no link, but you just lie the jelly baby on the rich tea finger and cover in rolled out (bought) fondant icing

(do you think it's set to become a MN classic?!)

Tippychoocks · 06/10/2010 17:00

Oh, you know I can be bothered Grin

Adding this to my poncetastic list. Move over sugar mice, the Baby Jesus is king of the confectionary now.

And the bonus is that you can eat the non-realistic colours like green. Win-win.

thisiswhataluv · 06/10/2010 18:28

making personalised calenders for family to give out as gifts?

making bath treats for grandmas/aunties

making fudge

making cards

hannahsaunt · 06/10/2010 22:40

Is it ethical to eat Baby Jesus?

jennymac · 07/10/2010 08:17

Does anyone have a recipe for salt dough?

nickschick · 07/10/2010 08:20

cup of flour
cup of salt
cup of water
a tblespoon of oil
spoon of cream of tartar and food colouring.

nickschick · 07/10/2010 08:21

mix it in a pan on low heat forst its all clumpy and then it goes pliable .....lovely to use when warm....you could add glitter to it too or even peppermint essence.

nickschick · 07/10/2010 08:27

You could make gingerbread houses out of cream crackers and biscuits with sweets and icing.

A nativity scene with old loo roll tubes and material

lots of green handprints could make a xmas tree

star shaped cookies stacked up looks like a tree.

xmas pudding crispy cakes with angelica and cherries for the holly

you could buy some fimo and make reindeer brooches as gifts

truffles and chocolates i believe you can make fab oreo cookies

xmas tree decs out of cheap baubles pva glue and glitter

angel wings for dd to wear

christingle candles

table displays
christmas touch and feel things -hessian for the straw, solk for marys gown felt for baby jesus' skin

hot chocolate with marshmallows and flake

xmas films

xmas songs

lucysmam · 07/10/2010 10:50

Wow! DD will certainly be busy in the run up to Christmas! These are brilliant, I'll be back to write the ones I didn't see yesterday down after the school run

I think I might get a cheap chocolate Advent calendar & do an activity a day in a home made one with a couple of odd pressies for the days I know she's knackered after a week of nursery and a sleep-over at nana's

OP posts:
lucysmam · 07/10/2010 19:05

Ladies, your ideas made dd1's day when I told her there were loads after nursery. She sang xmas songs all the way home on the bus after nursery & wished everyone on the bus a "merry christmas" as she went past them (even the driver Blush ) and has gone to bed telling me all about "it's xmas soon....."

She's all excited now because I've said she can start to do one thing from my (now very extensive) list of xmas activities each Saturday when she comes back from nana's. I'm hoping this leaves me enough to fill some pockets in her Advent calendar through December
