How much will a 2.5 year old understand?

I plan on doing the PJ thing (and lots more) but will he understand or is it just a waste of money. Thinking things like:

Santa stop here sign
Reindeer food
Landing dust
Plate and mug for santa

Silly things really - I suppose for myself too as my parents did fark all for me!

Not a lot DD only started geting it last year at nearly 4 but maybe that was us.

Portofino · 19/09/2010 19:32

Nah, I'd do it. Start the tradition. Now NEXT year they will really get it.... Grin

ragged · 19/09/2010 19:32

I think the plate and mug will make some sense, but the rest would be beyond my 2.5yos to follow... maybe the reindeer food DD (my brightest one) would have got.

Plan for Next year, a 3.5yo will get all of it :).

Opening the presents they'll get.
But don't be surprised if they like the cardboard boxes better than any of their contents!

My dd was 2.1 last Christmas and understood nothing of it - she liked the wrapping paper though!

Thanks! Will do some things but try and buy good stuff so it will last for years and years and he can keep. Cheers.

last year DC1 was 26 and i knew he wouldn't understand all that you've mentioned but we do do stockings in bed and he loved it!

was going to try some of your suggestions this year.

ttalloo · 19/09/2010 22:58

DS1 was 2.9 last Christmas and got it all - mince pies and carrots for Santa and the reindeer, presents and carols and Christmas trees. Struggled a bit with the concept of the baby Jesus, though! Blush

And he is soooooo looking forward to Christmas this year.

IMoveTheStars · 19/09/2010 23:00

Definitely start it this year, then he'll have an idea/remember it next year. my friends have all said that it's 3.5/4yo that they really get it and really start to be excited by Christmas (mine is only 2.10 so a way off yet :))

OhCobblers · 19/09/2010 23:15

clearly DC1 is 2.6 Blush

Do it this year so that you can get the wrinkles ironed out for next year. 2.5 yo will definitely get the plate for Santa and the reindeer food. Mine did Smile

LynetteScavo · 20/09/2010 18:13

Of course he'll understand! Smile

I have found a lovely plate that you can have personalised for Santa's cookies/mince pie!
