DD is hard to buy for- she is still very much a child but not in to toys so much this year. Need ideas for a main present that doesn't break the bank. I have asked her but she has no clue.

dd wants more sylvanians and an ipod.

How about a digital camera and photo album. Fill up a quarter of the album with pictures of her and family from the last 9 years and leave her to fill in the rest.

My dd (9) is Beatles mad and has been for the last 18 months which makes present buying easy, does your dd like any music? Tickets to see her favourite band (dd got Paul McCartney tickets for her birthday).

Tickets for the ballet and DVD of the ballet you will go and see, with new outfit to wear. This was a big hit with my dd.

Telescope and guide to the Sky at Night

Any good?

dd1 (9)wants a nintendo ds xl. Not sure if we will get. If we decide it's too expensive other ideas are:

large scooter
dressing gown
cluedo
magic book
chemistry set
bath bomb making kit

My daughter will be 9 also this Christmas.
She too has no idea what she would like and has a lot of stuff already.

I have so far got her lots of building kits like the Lego Apple Tress house and the Family House. Also 3 boxes of the K'nex Amusements Rollercoaster, super swing, Lighting Big Wheel one.

I think these will be great as it will get her to read the instructions before building. Also the Lego sets, each house has 3 different styls. So after finishing one, she can knock it down and build a different one.

Other than that, its mainly a lot of Hannah Montana stuff like bags, slippers, stationery stuff, bath stuff, reading books, knitting stuff as she wants to leatn to knit, a flower press as as like crafting.

How much do you normally spend on a main present?

DD got a grown up dolls house when she was 10. Some of the family bought her furniture for it. After Christmas we went and bought wallpaper and paint and she had a great time decorating it. It gave har a bit of a hobby saving up for more furniture.

Last year all DCs got an iPod Touch. They are so versitile and the DCs use them every day for completly different things. They wer £150 but have been well worth the money.

All good ideas, thank you. I am on a fairly limited budget this year, looking to spend £50 max on a main present. But if I get ebaying to raise more funds that will all go on Christmas pressies too.

Watching with interest. DD is 9.4 now and seems to have everything she could ever want. DVD player, MP3, camera, books, more books, microscope, DS, bike, scooter and skates. We have no idea what to get her and nor does she. It will probably be more books.

aristomache · 21/09/2010 13:21

my dd wants a digital camera too, you an get one from argos for only £20

LIZS · 21/09/2010 15:47

Watch out for the cheap digital cameras - they get through batteries really quickly and some don't focus well.

VoldemortsNipple · 21/09/2010 18:13

I agree about cheap cameras and batteries. They dont often focus very well either. DS was given one last year which was 8MP but the slightest movement would make the picture blurry.

What about a musical instrument. You could get a decent beginners guitar or keyboard in that price range.

Kreecher eReader? pricey though.

DD (10) has had the most basic PAYG mobile phone (£10) ever for a year and has managed to not lose it or get it stolen or run out of credit or battery.

It was given to her when she started walking to school and playing outside.

She only ever rings me and knows that she can't chat on it. I am amazed to be honest.

So DH thinks she should have a new basic phone this year with a camera, to reward her for being responsible. I like that.

Depends whether your DD needs one or not though I suppose.

VoldemortsNipple · 21/09/2010 19:45

We got DS a similar phone but with the camera and mp3. It came with £20 credit 18 months ago and he still has about £5 left.

We bought it more for the gadgets than to use as a phone, but he felt very grown up owning it.
