4 year old girl - stuck for ideas

My DD will be 4 in October and I need presents obviously for her birthday and Christmas. The trouble is, she already has all the "classic" stuff- cooker, farm, dolls house etc. She is into Sylvanian Families but I use those for grandparent presents.

She has seen an advert (cursed channel 5!) for two puppies that need a vet and a pony that eats a carrot. The pony looks deranged so I'd rather not. Anyone know what the puppies are? Or any suggestions? She likes art/crafts, dinosaurs, music....

Has she got a bike?

Tippychoocks · 24/08/2010 20:26

Yes and no. Has a hand me down and a trike but will not pedal either - have no idea why. They're not too big, she does the same with other trikes and bikes.

Maybe a scooter if she is not ready for a bike?

compo · 24/08/2010 20:31

Scooter

or peppa pig house, castle, or camper van

dora and backpack

CarGirl · 24/08/2010 20:32

Has she got a mini micro scooter - they are fab and not cheap so a good main gift?

compo · 24/08/2010 20:34

fifi scooter

Tippychoocks · 24/08/2010 20:35

Scooter is an excellent plan, why didn't I think of that?! She can scoot to school Grin

Not really into Peppa or dora sadly, she's outgrown them now. She like the Land Before Time, Rosie and Jim and Old Bear from old videos, sadly they don't make as much merchandise as they did!

She does want some slippers in the shape of lambs and I'm jiggered if I can find them in children's sizes.

Would definitely recommend a scooter.

And if she doesn't like pedaling - have you thought of a balance bike?

Does she has a doll's pram?

How about a play house or trampoline for the garden?

Hulababy · 24/08/2010 20:41

Tippychoocks · 24/08/2010 20:43

Hula, how did you find those in 5 mins and I've been pointlessly trawling for weeks? You should be a personal online shopper Grin
I do like the scooter and balance bike plans

She has a pram. She is the only grandchild of 4 sets of GP and much indulged.

mini micro scooter, don't bother with any other one!

Hulababy · 24/08/2010 20:45

lol = just googled. Possibly more out there, only looked at first page.

Tippychoocks · 24/08/2010 20:54

Liking the micro scooter. And it comes in pink, she'll like it.

So that's birthday sorted.

Christmas. I'm OK for stocking stuff but any ideas on the big pressie?

I'm not normally this crap btw. I usually have Christmas 50% bought by now but I've had a bit of a shit time and DD has been given so much of the big stuff already. I'm quite poor so the £50 mark, like the Scooter, is good.

Does she like dressing up stuff?

cherrymonster · 24/08/2010 20:59

i think four is a bit too young for sylvanian families to be honest- i bought loads for my girls last christmas when they were almost 5 and almost 4. i have had to put them away as they were just trashing them, and probably wont get them back out until this time next year at least when they are nearly 7 and nearly 6.

Tippychoocks · 24/08/2010 21:02

She's obsessed cherry. She found a few of mine from when I was young and has been working all summer for cash to buy one of the houses. She's old for her age.She doesn't trash them at all and spends hours playing house etc.
She does like dressing up cargirl but not as specific characters - I tend to get silly hats, beads etc from charity shops for her dressing up box

CarGirl · 24/08/2010 21:04

A few outfits could be a possibility - something to look like a sylvanian animal?

Tippychoocks · 24/08/2010 21:12

Bless Grin. I'm taking her to see Toy Story 3, should I brace myself for a Buzz outfit do you think?

What about making her a craft bag up, my Mum bought my eldest (6)a www.brightminds.co.uk/art-for-kids/colouring-books/colour-a-messenger-bag.htmbag which has compartments in and comes with markers to decorate the outside. Then she went to Poundland, Partners etc and filled it with all sorts of paper, stickers, glitter, card making stuff etc.

She really loves it and spends hours making bits and bobs and some really lovely cards. You could also add some Usbourne make and do type books for inspiration. The Book People tend to do them really cheaply.

This year I am getting her some nice baking kit, cutters, pinny etc and small sized equipment from Dunelm Mill.

pantaloons · 24/08/2010 21:21

damn, should have previewed! bag

Tippychoocks · 24/08/2010 21:24

That sounds lovely pantaloons. We do do a lot of baking so have much of that though I did see some dinosaur cookie cutters.

We have a cupboard that DD optimistically calls the doodle drawers (not accurate as it never houses anything we need to make owt from Mr blinking Maker) with crafty stuff in and I tend to re-stock that as part of the stocking. You can never have enough glitter after all!

DD (4) has a mini micro scooter in pink. Best present she's ever had. Uses it EVERY day.

DD also has one of those unbreakable kiddy digital cameras and she loves it.
