Where to live!?

I wasn't sure whether to put this in the Christian topic or a topic on moving house but I thought I'd try here.

My connection with God as a Christian is really important to me and I would like to be part of a loving church community.

Having done a huge amount of reading/thinking and considering and also having come out of a very evangelical church, I'd kind of like the following: A C of E church ( I'm loving the liturgy right now) that is inclusive and and progressive in its theology but also not too Anglo-Catholic in its practices.

I am likely to be moving to South Manchester (for other reasons) and would like a home of at least 2 bedrooms for under £300k. For my mental health I need at least a bit of greenery/ garden or park nearby.

Does anyone have any suggestions/ knowledge of churches and areas that might suit me?

I know that this sounds like rather a "wish list of things to suit me" and being part of a church community is about way different things to that, but there's a wide range of areas I could look at and I have to start somewhere!

I don't know Manchester at all, and I'm not an Anglican but I just wanted to say it's lovely that you're prioritising an area with a good church.

Thank you @ChristmasStars . It is important to me.

I don't know Manchester either, but when I've been house hunting I make a point of going into the local church for a nosey round. You can tell a lot from it's feel, notice boards, condition...
Good luck!

Not an Anglican and not from Manchester ... but I'd google the area where you want to live and research the church names that are highlighted. A church's website can sometimes give you a little of their 'flavour' but nothing beats a visit.

You could also look on the Anglican website: https://www.manchester.anglican.org/faith-calling/exploring-faith/find-a-church/

Have you heard of the Inclusive Church Network? You can search their directory for a church that has signed up to the inclusive charter.

Thank you both for your replies.

I have looked on the inclusive church network, looked at individual church websites and I'm starting to actually visit churches too.
The issue I'm finding is that South Manchester is a pretty big area and I could move to so many different places. There are also quite a lot of churches in the inclusive network. Sometimes you can tell from the individual church websites if, for example, they are more Anglo- Catholic or not, but not always.
I was hoping that someone here might have some knowledge about some of the churches and could tell me more about a particular church or a particular area.

How did you get on ? When you mean inclusive, is it a gay church you mean or anti racist, disability welcoming....

EducatingArti · 23/10/2025 17:07

Thanks for asking @GelatoForMe
Inclusive is interesting. My experience so far it's that those churches who are completely inclusive of LGBTQ people also tend to be more inclusive in other ways too.
I think I mean, holds a theology that does not limit participation of LGBTQ people of gold a theology that necessarily sees committed same sax relationships as sinful, but then also is anti racist, enabling of those with disabilities etc

I'm still doing some basic exploration, talking to people I come across who know about some South Manchester churches and very slowly starting to visit different ones. There isn't any particular hurry which is good really as there's been lots of other difficult circumstances going on which have been taking time and energy!
