Odd behaviour in church

I'm on holiday, so attended a different church today. Evangelical, full of life. We normally attend High Anglican services, so it's good to do something different.
Anyway, 2 Asian men sitting in front of us (one wearing a basketball outfit, the other kept his baseball cap on). Neither seemed very aware of what was going on. (On phones, talking) When we all went up to the communion rail, both took alot of photos, mainly of the one guy taking communion.
To me, it looks like they were doing it to support an asylum claim. But maybe i'm being over cynical (and, yes, unchristian).
I'm interested to hear if others have come across this.

The Iranian contingent in our church have their phones out a lot as they use Google Translate to follow the service. Could it be that?

@FuzzyPuffling I agree that is the most likely scenario.

@Sausagenbacon Regarding the taking of photographs, do you feel that the privacy of the congregation was being ignored? Did anyone raise any safeguarding concerns?

It is true that Christian asylum seekers can ask their church to support their claim. I can say that with authority because I have helped support people in their claims.

Ok, i just find it weird to be taking photos at the communion rail.

I can't disagree. I would not like my photograph to be taken without my permission.

I don't know what was happening, but I do know that some people may take the odd photo at church as well to share with family or on social media. I don't do this a lot at all, but it was done during my confirmation/received ceremony. Also, I took some photos when my mother attended my church one day and we had a great memory and I caught her going up to the Sacraments. It was her alone that I took.

Our church ( like many others) livestreams services to Facebook. They make it very clear at the beginning of every service, that filming will be restricted to the stage area.

I think its right that photos aren't taken of people at worship.

I often have my phone out to look up the Hebrew / Greek in BLB App. It might look to a casual observer that I’m not paying attention. Can’t speak to what was going on with these men though.
edited to say I’m not sure why OP felt it necessary to comment on their clothing?
