Hello,
Are any of you going to any festivals or events over the summer? I’m going to Keswick Convention for a couple of days as a friend is going there for the week and it’s a good time to catch up with her since she moved away.
Then I’m going to New Wine with DH and DD so hoping for some reasonable weather!!

I was hoping to attend the Keswick Convention, but I am not now able to go. Hope you have a blessed time.

I’m going to New Wine with DH. A few people from our Church are going but staying in a local hotel; we will be in a caravan.

Also hoping for good weather!

Hope you have a great time at New Wine. I enjoyed my 2 days at Keswick, but was staying 20 minutes drive away so looking forward to being on site all the time (though plan to have an afternoon off to go and climb Glastonbury Tor). Being at Keswick reminded me I need to pack some shorts ….. it is very, very hot in a tent with 2000+ other Christians!!

Thank you - I hope we’ll enjoy it too. We’ve been to New Wine at Peterborough twice, but not to Shepton Mallet. I’d also like to escape for an afternoon to do something touristy! I think the advantage of not staying as part of a group means there’s less pressure to stick around with the others. Having said that, it was good to get to know people a bit better the year we stayed with 9 other people from our church.

Are you going as part of a group?

TheDayisComing · 26/07/2025 14:46

Hi @LifeOfBriony my husband and I went to New Wine at Shepton Mallet and had a hugely transformative time, I hope you have a great time too! Our trip is going back a few years and God unfolded so many wonderful things there, I can’t even begin to write them. His presence was so there, it was beautiful. Immediately after coming away I experienced the life of the Spirit within me so tangibly and powerfully, it was like I had been doing life on 6% batteries v run down, but getting plugged into God that week it changed to living on full charge! It lasted a few weeks after before real life sadly crept back in (stressful jobs, housing situation etc) but I will never forget our time there and that supercharged feeling of life flowing through me, genuinely felt like I could run ten marathons!

Writing this now actually makes me wonder if we should go again. This time with a toddler and older DC would be different, we wouldn’t have the same freedom to sit and listen, pray and get lost in worship etc. But maybe it could be good in a different way.

So we didn’t go as part of a group and preferred it this way. We met loads of lovely people there but no commitment of having to meet up/ socialise or do group meals etc and could just go with the flow, do the talks and worship sessions we wanted, rest and eat whenever. It made it relaxing not being on anyone’s else’s schedule but enjoying our time with each other and God.

I know church groups go together though, and there is benefits with this too, but for us we needed time away with Jesus to refresh and re-centre on Him.

A couple of things I would recommend

Be a God Chaser! Ask the Spirit to lead you as to what to attend each day. We found some of the events (even the main tent worship on some days) were flat as a pancake. But keep looking, because if the same thing happens try changing venue and you’ll find Him elsewhere! It kept happening to us, we looked at the weekly timetable and bookmarked things that looked great, but actually ended up leaving and going to other things. Sometimes small tents at the fringes but God was tangibly there and it was amazing! So keep your feet light and be prepared to move on and meet Him in unexpected places. It was really quite a shock to find some sessions so completely flat and devoid of his presence (this happened with some of the main tent meetings and other small ones too) only to take a short walk away to another and be almost bowled over by the weight His presence! The Spirit was poured out and you could see Him moving among the people. Short distance, different worlds. My guess is that human pride and agenda (like with all things) came into it too much with some of the sessions that were flat. People doing their people thing.

If you can, try an early morning session. I went to a daybreak one while my DH slept and that quiet time before the masses were up was a special time. Obvs you can meet with the Lord just as much at other times and places, but I found an early morning one was particularly peaceful and intimate.

They may have changed it now but the showers had a couple round the back of the block which were electric stay-on type (rather than push button ones that keep stopping) which was easier and no worry about the water going cold!

God bless you and I hope you have a wonderful time :)

TheDayisComing · 26/07/2025 14:47

Sorry OP, I meant to include you in my reply too!

rachrose8 · 28/07/2025 22:32

Thanks for the replies. We aren’t going with our church, but our DD attends a youth group at nearby church so she is on Luminosity team with some of them. I think she will be working very hard but having lots of fun, so we don’t expect to see much of her.
From the programme there are a variety of sessions so I’ll take your advice and try some other than the main tent. I know the early morning a Bible Study is good, but 7:15 is very early for me.
Hope everyone who is going had a blessed time.

Hi @TheDayisComing - last time we went we tried all the morning worship sessions and settled on one that wasn’t in the main big tent. I’ve looked at the programme and have no real idea what I will attend - but I do feel I need a spiritual refresh as well as a good rest. @rachrose8 7:15 is early for me too.

I hope everyone going finds what they need. I’m also praying for good weather - I’d love warm sunshine but would settle for dry and not cold!

Borris · 01/08/2025 12:34

Hoping people are being blessed at new wine. I’m here too and have had some amazing moments so far. The weather is helping too 😎

TheDayisComing · 02/08/2025 17:13

Bless you all who are there/ going, I hope the weather stays good for you! 🙂

rachrose8 · 06/08/2025 17:25

We broke the journey on the way home yesterday so now at home unpacking the camping gear and starting the mountains of washing. DD has an amazing time in Lumonosity team - what a fantastic set up. I loved the Chapel service in the morning and was part of the prayer ministry in the sessions I went too. Sone good talks (Elle Mumford and Ness Wilson particularly) and being able to worship with so many. Also enjoyed browsing the bookshop and drinking coffee with DH.
New Wine is an incredible event and a credit to the 1700 volunteers.

It was my 3rd new wine and the best yet for me. The worship felt like heaven had come to earth. I loved Pete hughes and yes Ellie Mumford was magnificent. I must admit that I judged her as a dry old lady when she stood up … how wrong was I and definitely taught a lesson

LifeOfBriony · 07/08/2025 20:15

Hello, New Wine was wonderful this year - inspiring and uplifting. It was my 3rd time too and also my best. Paul Langham was interesting and funny and I also enjoyed Ellie Mumford and Ness Wilson. I also listened to Hannah Miller on NW Radio and am considering pre-ordering her book.

I’d like to book now for next year but DH is less keen - he’d like to go again but not necessarily next year. We don’t need to decide yet.

Borris · 07/08/2025 22:03

I’m going next year for sure!

FluffyWabbit · 08/08/2025 08:47

Hi all,

I visited the website but don't understand what New Wine is from the information on there? Is it a festival? A revival? I thought it was wine tasting at first ha!

rachrose8 · 10/08/2025 11:02

Hello,
New Wine is a Christian festival with worship, teaching and smaller seminars (breakouts) along with a funfair, food vans, coffee and bookshop. Fantastic kids and youth work runs alongside it.
Everything is optional and it’s impossible to do everything. Rise is an early morning Bible
study and Chapel is early morning communion. I tended to got to Chapel (and was involved in prayer ministry afterwards), the main morning meeting and the evening. In the afternoons I relaxed at the tent, went for coffee, browsed the bookshop, and one day went off site for a walk and to visit supermarket. It is a fantastic place to be.
