I pray that his successor will carry on the good work he was doing.

Yes, very sad. I really liked him as a Pope. I'd taped Urbi et Orbi as didn't get to watch it yesterday but from what I can see he looked very poorly on the balcony. It must have taken a lot of effort. May he rest in peace.

I deliberately used the names he was baptised into Christianity with, as well as his papal name. Our names matter.

The name Francis was a radical choice - after the saint who transformed western Christian focus away from Christ the triumphant king to Jesus who walked and talked with the poor. His last Easter, visiting the prison, meeting the pilgrims, in defiance of his doctors' advice on what was good for his own health was very Franciscan. Very Christian.

I always thought he was very humane. I was in Rome in 1984 for Urbi et Orbi and always meant to go back.

The TV was on when I walked in the lounge yesterday and I saw him on the balcony wishing Happy Easter. I'm glad he got to do that last thing before he died. Lovely final scene for Catholics to remember.

Pope Francis died today, Easter Monday. Hope his passing was peaceful after his recent illness.

Not unexpected. But still sad. He was a wonderful holy man. Just when clergy thought they could put their feet up…

Did he ask God if he could please hang on just to do the blessing on Easter morning? Did God say, "Yes."?

Not a bad scene for Protestants to remember, either.

Edited for punctuation.

As a Protestant, I came in yesterday morning and put 'Urbi et Orbi' on the TV, because I like to see St. Peter's Square on Easter morning and hear what the Pope says, whichever pope it is. So yesterday I saw the Roman Catholic Pope give his last public blessing. I am moved by the fact that he died within a few hours, but not astonished. 'There's a time to live and a time to die'. It's a nice scene for me and other non-Roman Catholics to remember.

I was baptised into a Protestant denomination of Christianity but I can be appreciative and supportive of other denominations.

It was perfect, I think, for him to summon enough energy to say the few words of blessing yesterday and then to slip away this morning, back to his Maker.

Ah thanks for the explanation! I just needed to scroll up, somehow missed the previous comment. This makes sense now. 👍

RIP Pope Francis. I must admit I was sorry for him that one of the last people he met was JD Vance, I'm not perfect, we are all sinners, but that man calling himself a Catholic 🤯

I didn't mean it's not poignant for protestants too, but obviously my sympathy lies more with the Catholics for whom he was their spiritual lead and head of their church.

Hope that makes sense.

Yes, of course. I wasn't being 'offended Prot'. I was just reflecting that a lot of us will be sad, even if we aren't Roman Catholics.

A bishop's daughter taught me that in Psalm 90 it says three score years and ten or eighty if we are strong, so his eighty-eight was well over.

He did look unwell during Urbi et Orbi - I thought part of his face was paralysed then. But it was a shock on Monday.
