A “Quiet Revival”

And now for some good news- someone sent me this today. Absolutely fascinating.

“According to a new study a “Quiet Revival” is afoot in British Christianity, with young people leading the way: reportedly, the proportion of 18- to 24-year-olds who attend church at least monthly has risen from 4% in 2018 to 16% in 2024: a startling increase.”

I heard a guy who is really involved with the Send speak. Really inspiring and exciting.

Let's keep praying for the generations coming behind us.

PrayMoreWorryLess · 19/04/2025 23:03

I can only speak for myself, and my 25 year old son. We have both come to Christianity separately over the last few years. So has his wife to be 🙏

I have spent my life as a complete non-believer. To the point of complete disdain for religion. My family background is 'new age' 'paganism' and 'witchcraft'. I raised my son away from anything pertaining to God or religion.

My conversion has been dramatic and incredible, I have literally been born again. My eyes and heart have been opened in a way I never thought possible.

I thank God every day for not giving up on me, and guiding me back to the truth 💗

That's wonderful @PrayMoreWorryLess I would love to hear your story.

SEND isn't a good thing. Hear me out. Looking at the website it's NAR-related - New Apostolic Reformation (originated in the US). This is not a good at all. I've been finding out about this recently and am quite horrified by what I've discovered. NAR has infiltrated a lot of charismatic and evangelical churches, but not only those. It's very well-organised and particularly targets young people. It's very worrying. I urge you to go read up about NAR and what goes on.

Briefly the NAR movement started in the 1980s by someone called Peter Wagner. The aim is a complete restructuring of the Church so that pastors and elders are no longer in control, instead they are replaced by Apostles and Prophets as governers. NAR claims they are restoring the 'lost offices' of Apostle and Prophet to the church. Their aim is to establish God's Kingdom on Earth and to reclaim all Christianity under these Apostles - 'Kingdom Now' theology.

You might think it's only a fringe movement, but you'd be wrong, there are already millions of people worldwide who are either partly or wholly involved in NAR churches. It's got a lot in common with cults. They particularly want to get hold of young people to convert so they can be part of the End Times army. It emphasises spiritual warfare.

I think the appeal is that it gives the illusion you have real power to overcome sickness, death, and gain wealth.

I notice on the Send website it mentions "THE SEND was born out of the prayer movement The Call." If you look for information on this, The Call is an American group led by Lou Engels who is a NAR Apostle.

Fortunately the Catholic and Orthodox churches are pretty safe from NAR - probably because they've got a far more solid theological background for believers to be swayed away by the sort of nonsense NAR are spouting.

Thanks for this ‘heads up’.

I should have investigated a bit more before posting the link. I know about NAR and agree it’s definitely to be avoided, I didn’t realise the Send was connected to it.

All I can say about the Send is that the people I have met who are really involved are solid Christians, mostly Anglican, and that the Holy Spirit is really using it to reach young people. I think it's really exciting that so many young people are turning to Jesus.

I don't blame you for not knowing. I only found out about NAR last week and was considering posting about it here, but was worried it would be dismissed as me being 'negative' or something. I recently met a lovely Christian online who invited me to her WhatsApp prayer group. I thought I'd give it a try but was very concerned by some of the things being posted that aren't based on Scripture. It didn't sit right with me and when the 'Spirit of Jezebel' was mentioned I asked my pastor about it and he mentioned NAR. I then went to read up about it and realised the group is heavily involved in that, much to my dismay.

That's all well and good but I do urge you to dig deeper as the Send (and NAR) is about more than just gaining new converts to Christianity, it's the whole thrust of the movement where you have these Apostles and Prophets in charge. NAR prophets may be invited to speak at your church for example, this is how they get their foot in the door with their ideas. You probably won't even know this is who they are.

LeaningOnTheEverlastingArms · 20/04/2025 09:36

I’m sure there are many solid Christians involved locally with the Send @ChristmasStars

Unfortunately the NAR roots would be enough to put me off engaging but each person needs to make his or her own decision.

We certainly agree that it is wonderful that the Holy Spirit is drawing young people to faith in Christ. Praise God!

Troubledwords · 20/04/2025 15:31

There was certainly a lot of teens and young people at Mass today.

Panamanian · 20/04/2025 19:49

I’ve seen a number of articles recently about Gen Z turning to faith. There does seem to be a missing generation (maybe millennials) at church. I hope for my children’s sake that this revival gains momentum. I long for them to have Christian friends and not to grow up as the only Christians in their class.

Skye99 · 22/04/2025 15:40

I was so happy too to hear about the Quiet Revival survey results. If anyone hasn’t come across Justin Brierley’s YouTube channel and podcast, The Surprising Rebirth of Belief in God, I can recommend them. He discusses the survey results in recent episodes.

I agree with those saying that NAR is to be avoided. I don’t like their idea of adopting New Age practices such as spirit guides (and other things about them).

Melissa Dougherty (Apologetics) sums up NAR: (WoF = Word of Faith)

"While the NAR leaders embrace New Thought teachings associated with WoF—such as health and prosperity teachings, co-creation with God, and the power of thoughts and words—it also tends to blur the lines with New Age concepts. The NAR is also guilty of trying to "redeem" certain New Age practices, including (but not limited to) psychic mediumship, tapping into inner power, power objects, tarot, energy healing, astral projection, and even channeling, which can be associated with both New Age and New Thought.

"In my opinion, one reason the NAR is more aggressive in trying to redeem New Age and New Thought has to do with their eschatology, or their belief of the end times: Jesus can only return when there's heaven on earth. How do they bring heaven to earth? Through signs, wonders, and miracles. They always want MORE power, and part of the reason why is to make this happen. So many of the NAR leaders reason that the New Age and New Thought have power that can be redeemed to achieve this eschatological goal.

Both the Word of Faith and the Signs and Wonders movements are dangerous. While they say they operate in God's power, I believe this is a guise. It ultimately shifts divine authority into human hands, granting humans a power that belongs to God alone."

I am not so sure its as wonderful as it sounds. Have you noticed on their website the leaders are all men? Oin digging a little deeper, I find that Send is in fact complementarian in its views. That means it has segregated gender roles, and although they claim that men and women are equal, in fact only men can be leaders or in authority, and women are subordinate to men and wives for example are expected to submit to husbands..
The idea of bringing people to the Great Commission to spread God's word into the world is wonderful, but this group's beliefs are not the way to do it imo. I am concerned that they target young people but are not upfront about the belief system.
