Please pray for my lovely friend

I'm writing because I'm so sad and I'm not sure most people in my daily life will understand.

My lovely friend is very ill in hospital and is most likely dying. She is on the other side of the world. She has cystic fibrosis and I believe she is now in the end stage.

We worked together several decades ago but have always kept in touch sporadically over the years. We worked together in the Far East 25 years ago. We were placed in a flat together. It was a tough work placement and it really bonded us. We could go years with no contact but managed to meet up twice when she visited Britain. We have always had great love and esteem for each other.

She emailed earlier today to say she was keen to chat as she is in a bad state, in hospital and finding it difficult to talk now. I'm going to call her tomorrow morning.

I'm just so very, very sad. She is a beautiful soul who has dealt with huge adversity in her life with great grace, courage and dignity.

Please pray for her and hold her in your hearts🙏 😢 Her name is Kel. Thank you x

Praying for your dear friend Kel this evening. And for you, dear @Jabtastic.

Thegreatestoftheseislove · 08/12/2024 02:13

God knows Kel and God knows you. He hears the cries of the heart. 🙏 I hope you manage to speak with your friend at this challenging time.

FuzzyPuffling · 08/12/2024 08:20

Your are both in my prayers. God bless you both, Kel and Jabtastic and hold you both in His loving arms.

Geneticsbunny · 08/12/2024 08:55

Praying for you both

Jabtastic · 08/12/2024 11:48

Thank you all for your kindness. As feared the news was devastating and my friend doesn't have long left in this world. We had a beautiful conversation by video call and told each other how much we loved each other. It will probably be our last conversation. I'm so very, very sad.

Please pray for Kel she is afraid of what this end stage will bring. Hold her in your hearts.

Thank you all x

I am so pleased to read you managed to speak with your friend and have a happy/sad meaningful conversation. We know that death in this life comes to us all, and conversations such as you had with your friend are precious beyond words. “Keep short accounts” were some wise words once given to me. I pray that Kel slips gently into the arms of Jesus. I send you understanding love as you experience the painful process of losing your dear friend to this life. It’s hard.

Thank you all for your kind and supportive messages. I feel a real low level misery hanging over me now today. Frankly I'm the Grinch which is the opposite of my lovely friend. I just found work challenging today encountering a few really unpleasant people. It doesn't seem fair that brave, kind, lovely people suffer while others barrel through life hurting people all around them.

It will pass but remembering the kindness on this thread was really helpful.

Thinking of you @Jabtastic. I'm so sorry to hear your friend's illness is terminal. I found these prayers on the NHS website - I hope they bring you some comfort tonight:

Let us pray;
Lord Jesus, our Redeemer,
you willingly gave yourself up to death
so that all people might be saved and pass from death to new life.
Listen to our prayers,
look with love on your people who mourn and pray for their sister Kel.
Lord Jesus, holy and compassionate: forgive Kel her sins.
By dying you unlocked the gates of life for those who believe in you:
do not let our sister be parted from you,
but by your glorious power give her light,
joy and peace in heaven where you live and reign forever and ever. Amen.

Eternal rest grant unto her, O Lord,
and let perpetual light shine upon her.
May she rest in peace.
Amen.

May almighty God bless us with His peace and strength, in the name of
the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.
Amen.

Much love.

So sorry @Jabtastic I've just realised the prayers are more appropriate for someone who's already passed. 😔 Hope it hasn't caused any offence.

I am so sorry @Jabtastic . May she travel
safely in the arms of God, and I hope you find peace too. I'm glad you were able to have that last conversation.

Hello OP. I lost my sister 12 years ago to cystic fibrosis. She was a bright, beautiful, funny and incredibly strong person. She was also Christian and we prayed together throughout her last weeks. I believe you've done the kindest thing possible in asking for prayers for your friend and I will join in those prayers. I'm really sorry for your loss.
