What do you wear to Church?

I go to Mass after work so am usually in my jeans, but I want to get out of the wearing jeans all the time habit on Sundays. Although I know this is common to wear and a lot of people do. What do you wear when going to church?

I usually wear smart jeans and boots, a nice (charity shop!) jumper. Aim not to distract others who are worshipping.

I don't think God cares what I wear to church - He knows what I look like naked after all!

Probably cares more about my attitude and motivations for the choices I make, I reckon.

Literally anything, well not swimwear Grin but I wear whatever I happen to be wearing because I work at a church. On Sunday (as I'm not at work that day) I'm often in motorcycle clothing as we ride over

Anything that won't show "too much" if the toddler makes a break for the altar rail / piano /organ / someone's newborn and I have to chase and dive after her. While our preist has assured me that they don't mind her joining them at the altar (she's quite fascinated by the antics during communion) I'm not quite comfortable with her distracting everyone. Or convinced that one day we won't get to "we break this bread to share..." only for her to pipe up "BISCUIT!!"

I'm usually running around doing gardening and chores straight after church, as said toddler naps then, so my weekend scruffy clothes are the norm.

Before I started volunteering in the childcare center with the babies, I used to wear floor- or shin-length dresses and skirts. I've devolved into wearing jeans and a Bluey sweatshirt most weekends, cuz it's a pain in the butt to get up and down from the ground in a skirt, one of the babies is a big spit-upper, and the kiddos like the cartoon characters.

I just think church is a good opportunity for dressing well and feeling your best. Sort of like a refreshing, spiritual self-care day.

Growing up people dressed in their Sunday best. My mum always wore a skirt and my dad always suit trousers, shirt and tie. Then a woman joined the congregation and often came after a morning walk in trainers, leggings, fleece and a few people decided that it they would like to dress more comfortably. Nobody complained, and some continued in their Sunday best but lots started wearing jeans. I think my mum still wears a skirt most weeks though. And most people still quite smart.

I do a mix. Sometimes my usual jeans and a t shirt but today a dress and boots. My children usually a little more smartly but because its a day i know they wont be rolling round in mud or eating soup and so clothes are sorr of kept for best. We had people in saris and African dress today with the whole family wearing the same fabric, and some guys in their usual football/rugby shirts. A real mixture in our church.

I don't care at all what people wear as long as not bondage harness or whatever, but I tend to wear dresses or trousers with nice top/jumper. Today I'm in a printed jersey dress with a long fluffy cardigan, tights, suede mary janes. I'm not a jeans wearer myself but have no issue with people wearing jeans.

I couldn't possibly really tell anyone how to dress in the real world and I simply cannot do that online as well. Although, I do like to see modesty and have internally struggled a bit with how some people have dressed but have said nothing, it is not my place to.

Me though, I have church clothes. I used to serve as a teen in the church brielfy and it was important for us to wash our church clothes weekly. Now, I just have dedicated some clothes for church which I only use now for church. I just wear a hoodie and a pair of Adidas bottoms. I usually wash them weekly and the top is just a really nice unbranded warm hoodie. I went with the company I did as my university used them for our hoodies which I liked.I got it for a base price without the brandling.

It might be helpful for some families just to kit the family out with unrbanded clothes for church.

It's wonderful that you're thinking intentionally about what to wear to church! While the Bible doesn’t provide a specific “dress code,” it emphasizes the attitude of the heart over outward appearance. Here are a few Scriptures and some practical suggestions: "Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as elaborate hairstyles and the wearing of gold jewelry or fine clothes. Rather, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight." (1 Peter 3:3-4) This reminds us that the focus should be on worship, not drawing attention to ourselves. Choose clothing that reflects humility and respect for God. "So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God." (1 Corinthians 10:31) Consider wearing something that feels respectful and honors the occasion. This could be a simple dress, tailored trousers with a nice blouse, or a skirt paired with a jumper. "Man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart." (1 Samuel 16:7) While God cares more about your heart than your clothes, dressing in a way that fits the culture of your church is also considerate. If others tend to dress casually, you don’t need to go overboard, but getting away from jeans might inspire a sense of reverence for you Do what feels right for you while keeping worship as the focus. Over time, you’ll find a style that feels comfortable and honors the setting.

It's so cold in one of my churches week that my church warden and I were comparing how many layers we had on. She had a very nice tweed jacket under her coat. I had a high tog gillet under mine. Matins was said at a brisk pace and my next church gave me a hot coffee to help me warm up before the next service. Sometimes we just have to be practical.
