Should I keep DD off nursery this afternoon?

She has been playing with her bits over the last two days, and this morning has been doing the same, and complaining that her 'bone' hurts inside, she said that her wee is hot. I came in to the front room to find her curled on the sofa, saying again her bits are sore.

She has not appeared to be 100% over the last couple of days, thought she might be coming down with something, and now wondering if it is a UTI or something similar, so made a GP appt.

Decided not to take her to nursery this afternoon, let her watch some dvds and snuggle for a quiet one with me and DS. She is quite upset! She now says she is fine and can go to nursery, she says it does not hurt any more, but I am not entirely convinced she is being truthful as she loves nursery.

She seems ok in herself, like I said not 100% (looks a bit pale, very tired, dark circles under her eyes, been a bit quick to tantrum, despite sleeping well, woke up in the middle of the night last night for water, which she never does normally).

Should I keep her off or take her?

I'd keep her off, and go and buy some fresh cranberry juice in case it is a urinary infecton.
A quick urine dip at the Drs will show if she has an infection x

Thank you. gp appt is at 5pm, will take a walk up to the shops with her.

She could probably do with a quiet one at home, even if it turns out to be nothing, won't do her any harm at all. Once she gets over not going to nursery. I wonder if this will last into school next year?!

Maybe she's dehydrated?

Pavlov · 09/07/2010 12:39

yes, maybe, I am keeping an eye on her water intake and her toilet usage today. She is good at drinking water though, and especially with it being very hot, I make sure she drinks a glass at each meal time, and with a snack, at least.

I might go ask her if she wants some now...!

oh dear, she is not a happy little girl now, she really wants to go!

She might be waking up because of the heat, that wold cause the tiredness too. Mine have been terrible sleeping the last few weeks.

Can't you cheer her up with a promise of paddling pool in the garden? Whether she's tired, dehydrated or got a UTI, nursery's not really going to help.

Pavlov · 09/07/2010 12:57

I think the heat has not helped, she is in the loft room which is very hot, so has the windows open, and a water bottle next to her.

She is so very very upset that she will not play with her friends, she is crying her little eyes out (and I am thinking, not too dehydrated then as she has lots of tears!), she says she can't play with me as I am a grown up and she can't play with DS as he is a little baby and doesn't know how to share she says she has no friends here and they will miss her and she will miss them !

She also said she is going to tell her daddy and he will be very very upset with me !

I have promised her: any dvd she wants, a game on my computer, a ham sandwich (her favourite), a bowl of ice cream, a walk to the shops to buy some special juice, cuddles with mummy and brother, and nope none of that is making her want to stay home.

I never thought it would be a battle to keep a child off school! She is really quite tired looking.

The facts she's sobbing is probably an indication she is too tired. Poor little thing!

They are like puppies at that age though, they keep going and going till they flop over.

Pavlov · 09/07/2010 13:00

She just said to me 'i am not poorly, i was pretending i was poorly, and now I am ok, i am mama, i am mama, pleeeeeeeeeese'.

Oh my poor little girl, what she really needs is a sleep. Let me have a look at what might want to watch...

Well, if it's any help, I strap my DD into her buggy and put her in front of the TV, ignoring the protests, CBeebies first then switch to something boring (horseracing is a good one, tennis another, otherwise Cash in the Attic or similar) and she usually drops off. Then we go for a wander so she wakes up out and about and usually happier for it.

Pavlov · 09/07/2010 13:08

ok, so I have managed to persuade her to snuggle on the sofa with her pillow and her blanket, my laptop and cbeebies, and a sandwich in the front room, but just with mayo nothing else. And now she is happy, interspersed with crying because she dropped the remote, and then DS touched her pillow, and I sat on her blanket etc...

I shall set up DS's cot, and maybe they will both have a sleep [yeah right]

I think, on balance, this is the best thing, despite her desire to see her favourite teacher who she will miss!

If she does have a UTI, I read earlier this week that you shouldn't drink cranberry once the infection's set in as it will coat the bladder and stop the antibiotics from being so effective. The stuff that makes it a good preventative mean that it can impede the cure.

Pavlov · 10/07/2010 15:51

went to gp, has possible uti, nothing in her urine, but she is sore and inflamed, so has some cream and told to keep an eye, take her back on monday if she gets a fever. She definitely does not look very great, a bit hyper but ok enough in herself.

Making sure she drinks lots of water and wipes front to back!
