dd has pus coming from her ear - is it a trip to the GP?

dd1 is 5.11 and had grommets put in when she was 3. Today she said she had earache and then had thick yellow stuff coming out of her ear, not loads. I gave her some calpol and she really perked up but ear was still a bit pussy. I think I need to see the GP tomorrow don't I? I normally wouldn't hesitate but it's dd's sports day and she was sobbing at the thought of not going earlier. Is there anyway, if there is pus, that it could self-heal or does is always mean anti-biotics?

sounds like a burst ear drum...mt dd had this with grommets too,a few times i recall.

we never needed anything...but the grommet may have come out now,i,er,looked in the pus for it!

dr's asap if u can. My ds is 19 and had loads of probs with ears 4 x gromets done etc. We thought he was fine but he had earache for 6 mths and his ear started bleeding a few months ago turned out he had a chlostemona (sp) disclaimer ive had a glass of wine! Anyway he ended up having the maistoid bone drilled and part removed he lost the nerve to his taste buds on his tongue and then after all that he had a fit due to the infection reaching his frontal lobe and he had a fit he had to give up his driving license for 6 mths and only got it back a few weeks ago. Two things to learn about here

  1. Dont do multiple grommets unless its totally needed
  1. Any ear probs get checked straight away (6mths earlier if he had told us) would have made a difference we live and learn

Dont mean to frighten you but any ear probs now I have no hesitation to ring drs or go to local walk in clinic my ds lost 75% hearing due to this problem so im probably over cautious

thanks, I think it's try-to-beg-the-receptionists- for an appointment time. Soremummy - really feel for your ds, horrible that a so-called 'childhood' problems is now having such an effect on his adult life.
