DH running with him and fell, DS whacked head on ground (on grass). No LOC, this happened about 30 mins ago. Cried lots as expected but this has wore off after a few mins. He normally sleeps at this time and had become quite quickly. Firstly, should I let him sleep second, what else should I do/look out for? We're calling NHS direct

Tis normal to have a little sleep after, as long as you can rouse/wake him easily eg by stroking his face etc. Can let him sleep though.

NHS direct will advise anyways but - how old is he? how far did he fall?

I personally wouldnt let him sleep just now.

MadameCheese · 04/07/2010 14:31

He'll be fine. Just watch him for signs of concussion, but don't rush to A&E.

moaningminniewhingesagain · 04/07/2010 14:32

NHS direct will go through an assessment and they will advise getting him checked if any symptoms, often they can give you advice on what to watch for at home, eg change in behaviour, being more irritable, vomiting, persisiting headache, trouble coordinating the arms and legs, etc.

Have a pen handy for the instructions

And it's normal to be more sleepy after hitting your head. OTOH since it's regular nap time, it could be just that.

MadameCheese · 04/07/2010 14:34

Should mention he normally sleeps at this time. Fell from 6' with some speed. He's 2

Fall from twice his own height, they will likely suggest a once over to be on the safe side, but let us know

winnybella · 04/07/2010 14:36

Ah, well, if he fell from some height, it's likely they'll recommend he be seen, but it's unlikely he has harmed himself on the grass.

MadameCheese · 04/07/2010 14:49

The nurse said let him sleep for now. He just woke when I picked him up. She also said observe for any changes in behaviour and keep an eye for the next 48 hrs. DH being so complacent "he'll be fine" grr

He will most probably be fine. I remember we too DD glamping at 5 months. DP was feeding her in a highchair that was placed on the raised wooden floor of the tent, near the edge. Somehow the chair moved over the edge and tipped over and she hit her head on the grass- it was easily 1.5 m height. She was ok although we were very scared.
How did it happen? Was he riding on DH's shoulders?

MadameCheese · 04/07/2010 14:58

DH was playing rounders and carrying DS is his arms. DH pegged it to get rounder , tripped and tried to turn so he'd hit the deck but DS still managed to smack head
