HELP! 2 yr old has black teeth

Can anyone help?

I've always been rigorous about my 2yr old brushing his teeth, but about 6 months ago he started getting black marks on his teeth.

It's got worse, and the dentist is baffled. He said it's staining and the only solution is to have them professionally cleaned- but that's not an option as he refuses to open his mouth.

He's not in pain or discomfort, but it is really embarrassing. His nursery has now noticed and mentioned it.

I don't know if its something he's eating.

Does anyone have a similar problem- or (ideally) a solution??

I read this somewhere else, hope it puts your mind at ease a bit...

"I noticed a problem when my little boy was about 6 months old. His two bottom front teeth, that had been so pearly white, were getting gray/black stains on them! The stains started right between the bottom front two. Then, I started to notice that his top 4 teeth (a couple of months later) started to have light gray stains on them...kind of vertical stripes. And every tooth in his mouth was gray/black on the back!! I was worried sick. I took him to my friend, who is a pediatric hygienist, and she scraped the stains off with her dental instruments. I was amazed that they came off, because I had scrubbed and scrubbed, with no luck. Well, the stains were back within a week or so. So, when I took my little boy to the pediatrician for a sinus infection one day, I asked the dr. He said that his little boy had the same thing! They had taken him to the dentist, and found out that there is a transparent coating/film that sometimes stays on baby teeth as they come in. This coating is very "stainable" and should go away as the teeth come all the way in...eventually. This really eased my mind, but I still wasn't convinced. I decided to talk to the dentist, and she said that was absolutely correct! And she also said that it's much more common than people think. In her words, "We see it all the time."

My 2yr also has this on her front teeth it's very so frustrating as she was breastfed, never had sweets, juice bottles or tea, she does love her fruit but we always ensure she has natural yogurt/cheese/brush her teeth after to neutralise the acid in the fruit, we took her to a dentist but she's very shy&dentist didn't even look into her mouth just gave us a useless lecture about cutting back on sweets etc which she never has, anytime I google it I get American forums saying that it's iron deposits from water and it's harmless just unsightly, we are going to another dentist soon so hopefully can get an answer to this
