quick chicken pox question

Well, a 2 quick questions actually...

DD (2yo) has chicken pox - spots have just come out today. She is absolutely fine, running around, chatting and eating as usual .

However, tomorrow morning we are due to get an early train for 3 hours to see my parents for the weekend. The doc said it was OK to travel but I am a little concerned about exposing all the other people on the train to a spotty contagious toddler. What would you do?

Oh and secondarily, I am 13 weeks pg - I had chicken pox as a child so I am assuming that this is not a risk for me in any way?

Thanks for any advice!

at 13weeks you should be fine anyway. it*s early pregnancy and just before birth that can be dangerous.

to be honest, if I were in the same train as you, I would not be happy at all, as it is still contagious.

If you have had chicken pox there should be no risk to your baby whenever you come into contact with it durng your pregnancy, so don't worry there.

I am conflicted about travelling by train. Chicken pox is highly infectious, however it is also not really serious, most adults have had it, and most children get it at some time, it is just the risk of meeting young children or babies who have no immunity, or someone who is auto-immune suppressed. On the other hand they are infectious at least a day before the spots come out, so anyone could have it anytime and not know. If we never went anywhere because there is a chance that they might be infectious with something........ I don't know sorry

You can't go on a train with a child with CP even if SHE is very happy and chatty with it, there may be some newborns and vulnerable people who will not be so happy when they catch it.

Sorry, but there is no way you should do that if you are actually aware she has them and she is spotty.

I would not do the train (she may not be so happy tomorrow either !). Can you rearrange to go next weekend - she should be ok by then.

I think you have to board up your windows and doors and go into isolation until the they have scabbed over?

You have to sneak to the park at 5am when no-one else is there and sneak to the shops drapping your child in a huge scarf and wooly hat so no-one spots the spots.

I think you should avoid as many groups of people as you can because as the others say - it can be dreadful for vunerable people if they get it. Sounds like she's doing well with it so be grateful for that really..

Thanks everyone, I know you're right, it's just that my parents haven't seen DD since April and this is the one weekend we are able to get together before the end of August so I did REALLY want to go.

NHS Direct have also advised me not to go (although our GP seemed fairly relaxed about it this morning!) and anyway, I think she may well be significantly worse tomorrow and we'll spend the weekend holed up at home.

Lots of info here. I think it would be unwise to put other people at risk.
