Has anyone got boys around this age that have been circumcised recently?
My sons foreskin is quite tight and we saw the consultant yesterday who recommends circumcision.
My Ds has had 9 anaesthetics in the past and several serious health problems that required major surgery during baby/toddlerhood.
I cant bear to put him through anymore upset and pain, but we may need to get this Op done eventually.
We have used a prescribed cream last year to help retraction and are going to try the cream once more which has a steroid in it and thins the skin making retraction of the foreskin easier.
If it doesnt work this time then i guess we have no alternative.
I think its better to get the Op done than to leave him with a tight foreskin into adulthood and have serious sexual problems cos the skin wont go back.
Your thoughts and opinions are greatly appreciated .

isnt there some sort of op they can do which is lesss radical than a full on circumcision...just something i read

yes i thin paddyclamp is right and that full circumcision is not always necessary, there are things they can do that just involve cutting a small part of the foreskin

hopefully someone with some knowledge of this will be along shortly!!

Really interested to hear what happens and whether the cream helps. My son age 5 and a half has had this since birth and I know it's a problem I've got to deal with one day but I'm just putting it off because he's had so much else to deal with (years of speech therapy due to severe stammer and now he's just been diagnosed with a degenerative bone disease!) so to be honest the tight foreskin has remained in the background of priorities!! Did the cream last year not work at all or was there some improvement? Sorry your DS seems to have already had to go through so much with ops etc and this is yet another thing to add in! It always seems like that to me, that some kids seem to get away with absolutely no significant health issues and yet others seem to have loads of things to deal with! Good luck with whatever you decide to do to help him.

maltesers - DS2 had this problem. Had the operation at age 7. Stayed off school 1 week and went back the next and was fully OK after a few weeks. It is uncomfortable for a short while but nothing like the pain, infection, scarring and mental suffering he would suffer as a man.

I have a friend who had this done in is 30s and he was not able to have a proper relationship before the operation.

There is a less severe operation involving a plastic surgery type slit in the foreskin called preputioplasty but it is not always possible to do this.

The consultant did mention this cut in the foreskin but he says its not always successful cos you get scar tissue which shrinks, which causes the foreskin to be as tight as it was in the first place. I imagine he knows what he is talking about. We are trying the topical corticosteroid cream again , but i suspect its not going to help a lot.
JellyBelly most boys cannot retract foreskins until after the age of 5yrs so your son is normal. U may like to try the cream at your docs recommendation and prescription. It worked for my older son who is now 22yrs but with younger DS it hasnt worked so far.
We may have no alternative but Circumcision as i cant leave him with this problem until adulthood.!!

Also consultant says you ofen need to do a further operation with the 'cut' op as it doesnt always work first time.

Although my son is only 5 and a half his foreskin is definitely tighter than a normal child as when he wees the end of his penis balloons out holding the wee momentarily before it can be released as the hole is so small. GP told us ages ago that it was way too tight but we're just putting it off! Will definitely try the cream later in the year when he;s got less to deal with with his other problems!! Good luck with whatever choice you make, hope it works out for your son.
