On monday my dh was home as last day of holiday, my dd1 (2.5) got up very hot very weepy wouldn't eat etc. i took my dd2 out for the afternoon as she was bothering my dd1 and thought she would benefit from a dvd day with dh. Got home and she was still very hot eventho having regular nurofen and calpol. Rang the doc and as it was dinnertime my dh took her just to get checked over.

I then recieved a call from doctor to tell me that dd and dh were in an ambulance and that she had suspected menegitus the doc had given her the antibiotic jab.

She was seen by various doctors and her temp went down from 40.3 to 36.7.

The doctors discharged her at 12am as she had maintained her temp etc for 2hrs plus there were no signs of initial rash which had appeared at the doctors.

She hadn't wee'd all day mon and finally went at 4pm yesterday as the doctor wanted to get her back to the ward and catheterise her.

she needs medicine to reduce temp still now and this morning when she is looking at me and other things her eyes seem slightly crossed, I will ring the doctor again but has anyone ever heard of this? Is she winding me as I have asked her to stop it if she can?

It's really hard to cross your eyes on purpose. Def ring the GP ASAP and tell them.

How is she in herself ?

she's still quite tired but since she has had her medicine she has perked up a bit. she is sleeping at the moment. they are not crossed like we would cross, it more like she is trying to blur her vision. what worried me is that she stops it when I ask her to look at me properly, but i've observed her doing it when playing this morning. she just keeps lying down a lot again today but i think that is down to the massive shot of antibiotic she had in her system- she's never had them before- and all the stress she went thro on Monday

It all sounds a bit confusing - have they given any kind of diagnosis in the end?

Antibiotics will only have an effect if the infection is bacterial - but you seem to imply in your heading she may have a virus? If she is still on AB I assume they will have taken some blood and run CRP to check for bacterial infection. And if suspected meningitis - did they do a lumbar punction?

I think if you are still worried, I'd use the open access. That also may give you an opportunity to talk through all that's happened, as it can be pretty confusing to keep track of all that's happening in a situation like that

Hope she recovers quickly

slow response - good to see that you contacted the ward and they want to check her over

good luck

ho oricella- got back from hospital. it is not menegitius that was confirmed when she was rushed by ambulance, basically the gp panicked. Her rash was viral/heat/stress.

bloods/ urine and throat swab confirm that it is a viral infection that can not be treated, however the virus has affected her eyes making them cross.

apparently it is something that is going round here, altho it affects each child different.

They could not see any muscle problems in her eye and have put it down to the virus and temperature affecting her balance and eyes.

They have referred her to have her eyes checked once the virus has passed to check lasting damage however they are not too concerned about it being permanently affected.

it has been the worst week i have ever experienced and i am a weepy mess, just hoping it passes soon. Her temp rises when she is due calpol/nurofen, half and hour before her next dose tonight her temp rose from 37.8 to 39.8 again within 20 minutes.

thanks fro your help ladies x

Glad to read that.. sounds like a nasty virus though. At least it sounds like they're all on the case - and good that they'll keep an eye on her eyes

Second cracking open the chocolate - and would urge you to take some time for yourself when DD is better to de-stress..
