He started to feel unwell yesterday but was fine first thing. He was sent home from nursery as he just fell asleep! (He's 3.6 by the way)
He's slept a lot today and has had calpol. We only have a forehead thermometer, which gives a reading of 38. Should I be concerned?

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Temperature doesn't really indicate how sick a child is. It is more important to look at their behavior rather than the thermometer - hard I know! As long as he is alert and drinking fluids then he's probably fine. If you see any changes in him that worry you (rash/light senstitivity/unresponsive) then take him to a & e.

This is a v good website for information and reassurance!

Hope he feels better soon.

If he has no other symptoms, I wouldn't be too worried.
Keep him well hydrated and let him eat if he's hungry.
He'll probably sleep it off in a day or so.
If the fever goes much about 39 or lasts more than a couple of days I'd take him to the docs.
Keep an eye out for any rashes etc that might appear.

Thanks, bubbley. I rang NHS direct just to be safe and I think he'll be fine. He's hot but awake now and responding to Calpol. He is drinking too.
