My 7mo nephew seems very yellow skinned to me, but otherwise

He's my sister's third child and the only one with this skin tone, way yellower than his brothers. He's been like this since he was about 2 or 3 months old so I don't think it can be carrots in his diet since he only started solids just before 6 months. The whites of his eyes seem fine, and he's a bonny, happy little chap otherwise, growing very well. I don't want to go overboard but what do you think?

I'll put his pic up on my profile for a limited time, along with his brothers for comparison.

Well it is difficult to say for sure based on a picture but my ds had a very yellow skin tone as a baby. He was a bit jaundiced at birth but that passed yet his skin tone was still a bit yellow for a 18 months or so. Before he was a year old I had at least two doctors ask me if he was normally that colour

I didn't really worry about it as I just assumed he had olive skin. Ds had blonde hair from his dad and olive skin from me (Mediterranean heritage). The olive skin just looked a bit odd on a bald/blonde baby. normally Mediterranean babies have more hair when they are younger and it is usually darker so their skin looks less sallow.

By the time Ds was 2/3 years old and had developed hair he looked less yellow and as far as I know has no problems now
(he is 5.6 yrs old)

It looks, to me, as he has a gingery type colouring (as in orangy freckle type skin IYSWIM), which looks normal. It looks like the lady holding him and the brother are ginger so is it not just that?

ah, that lady is his 12 year old brother!

Hi, duchesse,
There's something called Gilberts syndrome (no negative health implications as far as I know) that is caused by a bit of extra bilirubin in the blood and can make people a little yellowy. It's genetic and several members of my family have it, including me. I had jaundice as a neonate and never look yellow but apparently some do. It's something a routine blood test sometimes throws up if levels are high (they vary within individuals according to stress, illness etc apparently). Or it might not be that at all, obviously.

Tasala, his mother and oldest brother are red-haired. His other brother is blonde. He has dark hair and this yellow complexion. 'It's a shame the photos aren't bigger because the difference between him and his brothers is striking in the larger photos I have.

eclipse, I wonder if that could be the answer. Would the whites of his eyes be yellow as well though?
