i always use suncream both on myself and the dcs. but i have a question about it.

two of the neighbours' children were playing round my car and put their hands on it and my front door, they left big suncream hand prints on it but because we were going out we didn't clean it off for a couple of hours. when i did go to wash it off it didn't come off, and we even took teh car and washed it ata car wash but still nothing. my dad says it has burned into the paint. so my question is, if it is capable of burning through paint, is it really safe to put on skin? it has been worrying me now that i have been putting it on the dcs for so long.

I'd phone the helpline for the suncream manufacturers. To me though it sounds like a reaction with the ingredients in the paint, rather than it is likely to damage the children.

booyhoo · 27/06/2010 19:19

it could be just the paint that it affects.OH suggested ringing the manufacturer but i thought they are hardly likely to tell me it isn't safe are they? they want to sell the stuff. not put people off it.

I've been looking into sunscreen & came across this website last year safer sunscreens

I've seen Badger on a few UK websites, but haven't bought any yet as am using up some Jason (bought on nutricentre.co.uk). Jason goes on really nice but the ones I have comes out as a 5.

Riven, does your DD have to wear suncream, could you use a hat, long sleeve top etc ? (am I right in thinking she is in a wheelchair ?)

I've let my DD1 (7) get a bit of colour this year, but DD2 (3) is a bit young & very pale. I'm concerned about the chemicals v lack of vit D + skin cancer risks.

However we are off to the USA for our hols, so have full sleeve rash vests for beach wear & they spend most of their time in the sea.

You can buy badger in the UK Riven - although it is expensive - about £14. If you google Badger Suncream rather than sunscreen it brings up some UK websites a few from the top.
