Testing for Cardiomyopathy

We have an appointment for DS in five weeks at the local childrens hospital due to the loss of DPs dad via Cardiomyopathy.

Has anyone had this? Am not sure what to expect and I am rather nervous.

Hello SirBoob. My dd has congenital heart defects/disease, a symptom of which is DCM. Initially they will do heart tests including ECG, Echo (ultrasound) maybe a chest xray. They also do height/weight, probably Sats (o2 levels) and BP. They will be looking on the echo, and measuring how well the heart pumps (how much blood it pumps out on each stroke). All of the tests are non-invasive but the echo can be difficult on a wriggly baby. IME they either scream or fall asleep.

How old is ds? and does DP have any indication of cardiomyopathy? I hope he gets the all clear at this appointment but don't be surprised if they want to see you on and off for some years as they can't always rule it out completely immediately.

Thank you for all that Am relieved to hear they are all non-invasive, that was my biggest worry.

DS is 7.5mo, DP hasn't been to the doctors about it, but obviously I want to know with DS and he agrees with me.

Sorry to hear about your DD.

You're welcome Boob. Certainly no need to worry about any of the tests. Our clinic is generally quite long-winded though so you might want to go prepared for that.

BabyBoob looks a smasher.(I took a peek )

Does dp not intend to get checked? Must be difficult to deal with but the modern meds work wonders; it is best to know if you can persuade him as the drugs can keep it in check.

The appointment is 17th of August, but whether they will run the tests then or just talk about it all first, I'm not sure. The latter, I imagine.

Aww thank you He keeps me smiling (most of the time ).

I'm not sure. I mentioned it to him when it first came up in conversation that it was hereditary. Get the impression that he either doesn't want to know, or is giving that impression because he is frightened. I want to know But know it has to be his decision whether he finds out or not.

Sorry bit of a ramble there
