What do I do? DD not down on list for Procedure after making the booking

DD is having gromits fitted- I rang the medical secretaries and booked her in for a date agreed over the telephone, expecting to have confirmation in writing, along with instructions etc.

I rang today as we haven't heard anything, and the date is getting closer- to be told that the secretary is off sick, and DD's name isn't actually down for the agreed date.

I have already made childcare arrangements for the summer, booked the leave needed to care for her after her op, and was really ringing to find out when the follow-up appointment would be so we can book a family holiday.

I am so upset and annoyed.

Has anyone else had this? How was it resolved?

TIA

I don't know what you would do about the appointment - maybe chase up again when the secretary is back at work, or ask to speak to someone senior in the meantime?
I just wanted to reassure you that my dd had grommets fitted and her adenoids out last November and she was up and about and back to normal the following day. It seems to be worse for you having to put them through a general anaesthetic, than it is for the child.
I hope it gets resolved for you.

Ha, that sounds familiar. So this was our battle plan.hope it helps.

Ring back. Ask who is covering the secretary and ask when you can expect to hear from them again. Explain about the childcare and put the pressure on that wat

If you dont hear on the arranged time ring back a day or so later and ask again. At that point it is reasonable to start making noises about complaining.

Book the holiday anyway. Dont put your life on hold for the nhs. You'll still be booking it this time next year otherwise.

way not wat.

Thank you both!
I was hesitating about the holiday as I wasn't sure about flying/swimming afterwards... presumably no problems though?

So good to hear recovery is swift though.
Secretary is supposed to be back tomorrow (after a week off) and is to ring me, otherwise I shall be chasing monday am. The procedure is only 15 minutes- presumably the issue isn't surgeon fitting it in, it's around beds available in recovery.

TBH elective procedures are never guaranteed anyway, so I'd get on with booking the holiday etc. They can always offer another date/appointment if it clashes.

Book the holiday - the flight and swimming should be fine. I think they said avoid swimming for 2 weeks after the op, but since then we've had no problems. Have always used ear plugs and ear band or hat to stop water getting in though.
