Is everyone finding it really bad at the moment?

I usually use Benadryl for dd aged 12, but it isn't touching this week. Can anyone recommend anything? I was avoiding Piriton because of drowsiness, but certainly need something.

TIA!!!

My G just prescribed Loratadine syrup for DS2 aged 7, as piriton was making him drowsy.

beammeupscotty · 24/06/2010 00:09

see pharmacy for beclomethosone nasal spray (steroid) not sure of age range tho.
Asso seen adrertised nasal spray from boots (not own brand) which 'coats' lining of nose to stop pollen etc irritating and causing symptoms. Never tried it yet but new on market. How about piriton at night only?
You have my sympathy as a year long chronic hayfever sufferer, and yes worse at moment!!

eltham · 24/06/2010 06:23

piriteze doesn't seem to have the same drowsy effect

Any suggestions for a 2.4 year old?

He has really itchy watery eyes and a constantly leeking nose - so I guess its hay fever.

Is there anything you can give a child so young?

Ineed2 · 27/06/2010 18:20

I think loratadine/clarytin can be used for very small people Dd1 first had it when she was about 2. Also if you do dry clothes on the line put them in the drier just for a few mins to remove the pollen, and rinse hair before they go to bed.
We have a steroid nasel spray, loratadine and a ventolin inhaler at the moment for Dd3 and Dd2 has cetirizine and ventolin, all of which seem to be helping.
I would def go to the Gp cos its so expensive to keep trying different things and they can prescribe better stuff.

My DS's hayfever has been frightful for the past week. He's now on cetirizine (day), piriton (night), steroid nose inhaler thing, and sodium cromoglicate eyedrops. He's still suffering. Pesky Piriton does not make him sleepy - he's still awake at 10.30pm (he's eight). We're even trying local honey in the hope that it helps.

DS2 is 10 & we use Piriteze and eye drops prescribed by the GP.
If antihistamine alone aren't enough you need to treat teh symptoms individually IYKWIM.
Regualr showing down def helps too.
