Background....Ds1 is 4 and was referred for speech therapy at his 3.5yr check because he can't pronounce certain letters. HV also thought he may be tongue tied so suggested i take him to the GP to have a look. He was referred to E.N.T. by the GP. At the E.N.T. appointment the doctor took one look at him been able to move his tongue around and out and said he didn't think it was bad enough to do anything about but if SALT thought he needed it they could re refer him once they'd seen him. At the beginning of May he eventually got a clinic appointment at SALT and his therapist thinks him been unable to get his tongue up to the top of his mouth/teeth is affecting his speech so she re referred him to E.N.T. At this appointment the doctor has agreed to give the op a go because although his tongue tie is mild it is causing him speech problems.

So now the questions. How did they cope with it and how long til they were fully recovered? When could they eat and what did they eat first?

My DD was tongue tied and our dentist cut it under local anaeasthetic when she was about 6. He gave us the option of being referred for hospital treatment but my daughter trusted him so we felt it was better done with him. I was with her during the procedure. It was very quick, and painless (he used the gel before the injection). She did have a couple of stitches which came out by themselves before our appointment to have them removed. She ate well cooked rice and baked beans as her first meal after having it done and only ate soft foods for a few days - we soaked all her cereal very well in warm milk, she had bread rather than toast, etc. Good luck with your Ds1's op.
