My 10 month old DD is totally covered in molloscum. She's had it since about 3months old, when it was misdiagnosed as chicken pox. It seems to be getting worse and worse. I know there's nothing to be done about it but I've overheard some nasty comments from other mums so it's getting me down a bit. DD, fortunately, couldn't care less! I suppose it's better to have it now than later when it'll bother her. Please reassure me that it WILL go away one day!

It will go away.

DS had it for about 10mths and we treated it very sucessfully with tea tree oil in the end.

fifitot · 18/06/2010 17:50

DD had it for about 12 months and it went, very suddenly. She knocked the top off one of the spots in the swimming pool, it bled profusely, then suddenly all the spots started to go.

At 10 months your daughter is really not bothered, so better she has it now. Saw a 10 year old with it the other day, I bet that's hard for her.

ChocolatePants · 18/06/2010 17:52

My 3rd DC had it- for around 18 months I think?- It DOES go away, but I remember being really concerned about it at the time- have you been to GP re- concerns that they have had it for a while?

HurleySatOnMe · 18/06/2010 17:53

Yep, it will go away. I was pretty distaaught when my youngest got it, I had PND and it was one more thing that had gone wrong. Take heart that they will literally disappear overnight. I squeezed the biggest ones, they scabbed over, and they all just disappeared. WOrth noting that dd had been given antibiotics for a skin infection at the same time, I wonder what affect that had? I was told by my HV that the body doesn't recognise it as an infection until they have been squeezed, which causes a reaction and then the body fights them. My dd had quite a lot of them, there is NO trace of them now, over a year later, no scarring at all.

Ds2's got this - he's 6 and has got one huge one on his chest (referred to as his 3rd nipple!) and a few little ones around it. GP has said there's nothing to do and they'll go in the end. They don't hurt or itch but he doesn't like the big one - just hoping they'll disappear in the next few months.

TheNextMrsDepp · 18/06/2010 17:56

They hang about for up to a year, but they will eventually vanish of their own accord. We squeezed the bigger/more irritating ones and left the rest alone. They do look horrid though!

JasonIsaacsIsRatherGorgeous · 18/06/2010 17:57

DS1 was covered in these as a toddler, he had to wear a sun suit in the local swimming baths because the swimming teacher refused to touch him.

I saw the doctor and he told me they lasted about two years and literally two years to the day they disappeared, they looked quite sore as they were going but as others have said went literally overnight.

I have heard other people suggest that if you prick the centres of a couple with a cocktail stick this will trigger something in the body's immune system and then they will start to disappear.

Tea tree oil is good, neat on a cotton bud, just dabbed on the head of each one. A spot of blood appears in the middle, rises and turns into a scab at the top (over a few days obviously - realise I've made it sound like a lava lamp!)

belindarose · 18/06/2010 19:27

Thanks everyone. DH does squeeze them when they get enormous - I can't do it. They cluster around her excema patches, so I try to prevent that erupting as much as I can. I'm being silly, she doesn't care one bit!

My dd had this for ages with lots of spots. It went suddenly. The doctor removed one spot with a small metal stick that had a hollow circle part. He pressed the circle part on the spot & the gunk came out. Afterwards the spots started to go.

sweetkitty · 18/06/2010 19:53

18 months here with DD2 she was covered in them, squeezing them is very sore so try not to do it.

They tend to get big then come to a head themselves which then gets knocked off and bleeds like mad.

zoelikesjam · 21/06/2010 11:47

Our two had this and i was going through a divorce with dad, he was very unsypathetic and kept verbally attacking me to sort it out, and if i didnt he would treat them with veruca gel, i was terrified he would hurt them...despite me taking them to dr's etc. I eventually printed off a whole host of information from the net and shoved it under his nose, he left me alone after that!
Jaimee had four just above her lady bits, they disapeared on there own after 17months. Lewis had them all under his arm, down his side and across his belly. Like someone else has mentioned, he had half big/half little ones. The little ones we didnt touch but the big ones we picked the bit of the top, then left it for a day or so, they kind of 'came' to head alone and we gently squezzed them and they exploaded...gross but they went within days of doing this. think Loui's took about 8months to go, and we didnt hurt him by doing this as they didnt really need forceful squezzin as they were ready to pop. We would have done the same with jaimee however the place they were, i wasnt happy to mess with them.

Has anyone else had the scars? Both children have nasty scars from them, and i know its not from me picking them as like i said we didnt touch jaimees!

Pogleswood · 21/06/2010 11:53

Another one saying they will go - but it's horrible while it lasts!
DD only ever has a few spots at a time, but DS was covered - at one point he had the molluscum, chickenpox and impetigo all at the same time - he looked like the victim of some awful plague! Poor Ds ...but he has lovely spot free skin now.
Both of them have one or two scars but from chickenpox,I think - not the molluscum.
