Baby wind keeping us both awake! Help!

I recently posted about whether my 8 week old could be dairy intolerant. He had green poos, runny nose, frequent tiny poos rather than a few big ones(!)and wind. I've since cut out dairy as we found blood in his nappy and some of the above has improved. We're now waiting for a referral to the hospital.

New problem is that whilst DS sleeps for 2-3 hours after his last feed (9.30 ish) he then proceeds to spend the rest of the night after the next feed grunting, straining, writhing and farting. He doesn't seem to be in lots of pain as he isn't crying. Poor boy is not sleeping for decent stretches of the night and neither am I! We're both exhausted! Has anyone else had this?

you poor thing you must be exhausted!
my DD had alittle of this, probably about an hour after a feed she would wake crying pulling her legs to her tummy, we tryed gripe water, so cheap and so effective!! never had any problems after using that, worth a shot x

Thanks - we tried the gripe water last night and it was marginally better! We actually had two lots of 2 and a 1/2 hours! I'll try again tonight. Thanks again!

Could he be dehydrated? Small stools, anal fissures and gas are consistent with constipation and dehydration makes that worse. Quite likely in warm weather. If the gripe-water helped a little it could be that he needs more fluids generally... some water in between feeds, perhaps.

Not sure, the health visitor checked him though so I'd hope she would have picked that up. We've got a date for the hospital now so hopefully they'll shed a bit more light on the situation! Thanks for your input.

My baby is 10 weeks and does this! He doesn't keep still all night long I've shown our HV a video of him writhing at night and she seemed quite shocked and suggested we take him to gp. Gp says its just immature bowel as he's putting on weight. But I swear its getting worse. Now he wakes up crying with it sometimes. We've tried infacol, colief, gripe water and gavascon, which gp precribed just in case he had some silent reflux. Nothing has helped his poor little windy tummy Now wondering if I should take him back and be more insistant...

Sorry, not been online for a while so missed your post luckyloo. Sounds exactly the same! DS is worse at around 4 in the morning - wonder if it's because he's been lying flat all night and the wind has built up. I'm seeing a doctor at the hospital on Monday because we found blood in his nappy. If he can shed any light on the situation, I'll let you know.

Hi,

My daughter had terrible wind and colic so I feel for you. Keep going with the gripe water, we tried everything and spent a fortune in the process. The gripe water was the only thing that made a difference but I had to use it after each feed for it to work or there was a massive build up and night times were very uncomfortable for her. Good luck at the hos.
