Taking DD2 to get a non-fixed brace this afternoon. any hints and tips gratefully recieved. Particularly in how I'm supposed to force her to wear the darned thing.

she's 12 and remarkably chilled at the moment - i'm bracing myself for bedtime though.
She's to take it out for eating but has to wear it to bed.
Briber is definately called for.

I had a T Shirt (inherited from a friend) that said "Tin Grins are In"

You also might want to investigate, if you haven't got some already, getting hold of some dental wax. This is a soft putty like wax that you can put around the more scratchy parts of the brace to make it feel less uncomfortable.

Offer her painkillers, braces can really hurt at first, and maybe try and get her to do something distracting to take her mind off the pain like watching a favourite film, playing a game etc.
Remind her how lovely her teeth will look if she is feeling bad about them/mouth is hurting.

I've made them sound really painful I know, sorry it'll go away after a few days though.

don't seem to be hurtuing at all which is good as she won't take any form of painkiller at all, ever.
Will look into getting some wax. and more bribery.
