Could this be chicken pox?

ds1 has had a temperature (38/39) since Tuesday morning. I know he has been exposed to chicken pox which is going round his nursery so I am expecting it to be that, but no spots have appeared as yet.

He is quiet and has been sleeping a lot more than normal and not eating much food. But he has been drinking plenty and is responding normally otherwise.

He has given a sample to rule out a urine infection as he has had one before.

Does chicken pox often start with a temperature that goes on this long? When may I expect spots to appear? I have spoken to the doctor yesterday who said it may be CP but wondering when I should go back to them really and looking for some reassurance that other people have had similar symptoms with it.

Thanks.

DD had a temp on the Sunday, and on the Tuesday I spotted (hoho) one blister-type spot on her leg. Doc said not chicken pox. The following day there were 2 more behind her ears. The following day a few more in her nappy area. Wasn't till about the Friday that we were absolutely certain it was CP. She was 10mo at the time.

Thanks Gelena. I've been worrying because of how long the raised temp has gone on I think. I can see a bit of a blemish on his face, so will keep an eye out to see how it develops.

Temperature comes first, often fairly mild so you don't really notice; my dd were just a bit off-colour. Spots are a few days later. First you get one or two, look just like insect bites. Then you suddenly get loads, usually on the torso and face. Good luck, hope it's not cp!

Thanks, blemish on the face looks a bit like a bite at the moment, so here goes I think....

Hi Cheggars, My DD started with them they day of the Cup Final, Knew she had been exposed (3wks + Previously) but hadn't shown any signs at all, Lo and behold, sat on the Common in Portsmouth (we live in Yorkshire) waiting for the game to begin and I spy 3 spots behind one ear and 2 behind the other that weren't there an hour before as I had brushed her hair!! However that night she had a ragin temp, So i guess your DS could very well be starting!! Hope he has a 'Good' dose if at all poss!
