Temperature and grumpiness 3 days after 13mo MMR

Ok, so DD had her 13 month MMR on Wednesday, and we were warned that 7-10 days afterwards she might develop a fever and rash.

3 days later and her temperature's gone up, and is coming down a bit but not to normal levels with Calpol/Nurofen 3hrly. She's also grumpy (well, tired-grumpy really. Most of the time she's smily).

She's off her food - eating a bit but not a huge amount - but drinking water.

Is this likely to be a reaction to the jab, or is this completely unrelated?!

We've had 2 weeks illness free (which is the first whole fortnight since November) and I can't handle a virus on top of jabs!

Almost certainly the jab, don't worry. Mine had reactions quite quickly, keep up the calpol etc, and take her to gp on Monday if you think she is getting worse.

Poor you having had so many viruses... it feels like that in our house sometimes, I get cabin fever having to stay in with one of the dc. Plus I have had more viruses this year than I think I have ever had before combined, maybbe it has been a bad year for them.

Good luck over the next few days

Thanks Sparkle. She seems a bit happier this morning, although we had a hellish night. We're keeping up the Calpol and Nurofen though - we'll probably start reducing them tomorrow.

I am not a doctor but I think there is a limit to how many days you can give Calpol without medical advice.
I hope your DD is better soon.
When DS1 had his jabs he was a nightmare the first night and up until about 2am.

Galena · 06/06/2010 22:06

Thanks Fab, but we have only been giving it for 2 days (only started when the temp went up). To be fair, DD has had rather a lot of Calpol in her relatively short life so far - she has been ill so much that she tends to have it at bedtime quite often to calm sore throats/temps/etc due to viruses.

This is a good article about fevers. Hope your DD feels better soon.

I am not sure calpol will "calm sore throats."

Galena · 07/06/2010 14:15

Well, maybe she hasn't had a sore throat, but whatever symptoms she's had which have meant she doesn't settle, they are eased by Calpol and she then sleeps. Sometimes I've been at the doctors weekly and they've said 'It's a virus, give Calpol' and 'It's still a virus, keep giving Calpol'. I'm not going to get stressed about it.

Interesting article, bubbley, thanks.
