Happy but off milk

Hi All

DD is 20wks and has recently gone off her milk, thought it was her reflux playing up so took her to our Paed who said it was because one of her medications was not being administered correctly - amended the format of medicine and said that would fix things.

However, she seems to not want her mid morning milk at all, will feed 7oz in morning with no hassle but then nothing until late afternoon despite my attempts she just either plays with the teat, chews it or cries. Thought it was teething so gave Calpol which did enable her to feed later that afternoon but tried again today and still is not interested at all in the 11.30 feed.

Could teething put her off milk and for how long would this last? It has been just under a week, in herself she is really happy. SLightly red bottom although not nappy rash, wet poo but not diarhea (spelt wrong!) and a bit whingy when not smiling, with drooling but no red cheeks I am confused!!!

Does sound like teething as all normal symptoms. I would try giving calpol and Baby neurophen simultaneouly every 6 hrs for 3 days and see if this helps. The pain of sucking on the teat of bottle could really stop her wanting to feed.

hi have you started weaning yet? she could be wanting food too?

does it differ from baby to baby how long this lasts and do they get really clingy, i can't seem to put her down, if i do she crieswhen i turn my back or horror i should leave the room! typing this one handed as had to rock her to sleep this morning - incredably grumpy since 5am (5am god that is middle of night surley!!!)
gave baby rice on wed at about 2pm but she threw up projectile at 10pm then again at 3am. never been great feeder but did gulp down the rice - spoon nice on gums? gone on for week now but hate it when she is so grumpy, makes me sad . starts nursery in 4 weeks, what if they think she is a moaning baby and not like her. that thought makes me almost cry instantaneously. not a good day

i tryed mine with baby rice but mine didnt want to take it at all creamed if it went near her so i started her of with baby porridge that was really good, her normal amount of milk and a tiny bit of porrigde try that and mine was and still is sometimes a very sicky baby its not nice for them is it also with the clingy ness mine started that but i would try to ignore th crying when put down because it makes them worse when they get older sounds mean but they soon learn hope that helps a bit

Clinginess is likely to be separation anxiety. When the baby realises they are a separate being to you and feels insecure because of distance between you. Its a phase that passes with out any action required. In fact the more you are able to cuddle them and keep them close the more confident they will then be and the phase will pass quickly as their desire to explore independently increases.
Its bloody hard this mothering lark. If its not one thing then its all three!!

You're right bumbums, this mothering lark is amazingly hard. Hats off to all the single mummies out there, they are unsung heros.
Well, got a few more ounces than have done the past few days so feeling a touch better, but she is still not right bless her. I know I am a paranoid first time mum but I am taking her to Dr just to rule out any ear infection or anything else. Still a bit teary as it has been a tough 13 hours today. Thanks for your posts, very useful. Will let you know what Dr says.
