Gunky eye in toddler

Ds is 14mo and since fri has had gunky eyes. I was keeping it clean with cotton wool and water and hough it was getting better.
It's been much worse today and very runny too.

What is it?
What can I do?

He's otherwise fine in himself and eyes aren't red so don't think it's conjunctivitis

Most likely to be conjunctivitis. Wipe his eyes regularly and gently with cotton wool and warm boiled water. Will prob be a struggle but you have to try to do it. If this doesn't help after a few days, get some drops from your GP.

ds gets this a lot
best way to keep on top of it is clean as the others say as often as you can (and carry on for a few days even when its gone). change his pillowcase every day, and yours if he comes in your bed;. try to get all the gunk out of the eyes even though its difficult, inc the stuff crusted in lashes - if the water is hot (but not too hot obv) it helps - you can hold it on for a few seconds to soften it.
if they do get red or swollen a squirt of breastmilk works wonders, if possible

You can also try some cooled chamomile tea - use as you would boiled water. It really works! But breastmilk is definitely best.
