Morning

i am the world's worst mother. 7 month old baby has fallen off the bed. He screamed and now has brusied cheak. Now he is playing like normal.

Do you think i should risk a & e or would cause too much trouble?

In my experience A & E are used to dealing with parents of small babies! You could always call NHS Direct or a local service if you have one. You could also get to see GP today too.

However, in my experience, little babies bounce quite well - my two probably didn't make it to 7 months before they had fallen off the bed! I remember the first time DD1 fell off a bed - we were in a hotel and just didn't catch her in time - the scream seemed more in indignation that we would have let that happen rather than the fact of the actual fall.

Keep an eye on him incase he seems different later but he sounds like he is fine.

DS was a bit older (18mo?) when we had something like this - he was climbing on my Dad's couch, and fell onto his head. To be honest we probably wouldn't have gone to hospital, from what I recall we went to local docs first but there weren't any appointments and the receptionist did the whole 'well if they were mine I wouldn't take any risks' etc. Hospital were a bit from what I recall, as DS was perfectly bright, not sleepy at all and not even crying when we took him there. We were just advised to give paracetamol if he had a headache.

You can find out a bit more online here (foot of page) - main concerns are if they are sleepy, have a fit, have lost consciousness AT ALL or are sick; or with a small baby if they continue to cry for a long time. Ring NHS direct too, it will set your mind at rest.

You are not a bad parent! Things like this happen to everyone.

Ahh don't panic, this sort of stuff happens all the time. I would say no need for drs etc unless he starts being sick/overly sleepy but they are bouncy little things and believe me there will be worse things to come (especially with boys). I wince at some of the bumps and falls my ds has had. He was and still is a climber.

Agree with all posts - you've done well to get to 7 months with no mishaps.. as long as there is no drowziness, vomiting etc. put it down to experience,. and stop worrying.x

Agree with other posters.
When I worked in A&E this poor mum came in with a 5 month old baby. Mum had looked away to get a clean nappy and the baby had rolled off the changing table, hit its head on the table on the way down, and landed in a heap on the floor . Baby was fine, but mum was in deep shock!! Please don't feel bad, a bed is not much higher than their height, so its like taking a tumble!.
