Baby has sore under chin/neck. Getting worse and bleeding...

My four month old son is a very refluxy baby. He has a lovely chubby chin but the sick tends to collect in the fold between his chin and his neck. As does milk when I'm feeding him. It's becoming very sore and despite me and my DH trying to keep it as clean and dry as possible, there is a rash and the skin has split where the fold is between his neck and his chin.

It pains me greatly to see him bleeding. We've tried using Sudacrem on it too but it doesn't seem to help.

I'm really worried about it.

To the GP. You'll probably get Timodene or something to help it heal.

I know that it breaks your heart to look at it but this does happen sometimes, Agree GP.

I would double check when you see your GP and you are doing the right thing with the sudocrem but probably a good barrier cream like Vaseline would help...keeps it moist for good healing but would stop bad bacteria getting in.
Something like Fucidin might also help (antibiotic cream) but i don't know if a small baby can have this.
Either way - Vaseline isn't going to harm him and should help in the short term

Ds had something similar at about the same age. Dr prescribed fucibet (sp?) which cleared it up quickly. It is a steroid cream I think but you only need to use it once or twice.

There could be a bit of a fungal infection going on. DD was always prone to this due to being a hideously dribbly baby. A dab of canesten always cleared it up really quickly. you could try this tonight, but definately get it checked out by your GP tomorrow.

I think this is quite common in chunky babies I know my 3 ds all had these folds and its quite tricky to keep them clean and dry- i think the doctor needs to be visited first then i think you need some flannels to keep 'mopping' up to avoid it getting this bad again.

I would place my babies on their tummies, so they would crane their necks and look up, revealing all their chin, and I would then take the opportunity to gently wash with a a soft flannel dipped in luke warm water. Then pat it dry. It is important to pat dry. I would do this at every nappy change, to ensure baby was clean in the folds of their chins.

But at this point, I would let the gp see to him, but when his skin has healed, I would recommend doing like I did.
