one year old not eating with temp and cough

my one year old hasn't really eaten anything for 3 days. He has had a temperature up to 39 and a bad cough. Took him to the doc and have antibiotics (which we aren't really managing to get into him). Anyone any advice on how long i can leave him not eating until i need to take him back to the doc? He isn't drinking much either and vomited up his bedtime milk.

I know it's so hard when they don't eat. It's really important though to get him to have fluids - even soups. Melted ice cream slurped is soothing too and has sugar to keep them perky.
Antibiotics can make their tummies a bit upset so he probably doesn't feel great and not much like eating.
Him not drinking is not good though and if you can't get fluids into him, take him straight back to GP. Babies and small children get dehydrated much more quickly than older children/adults and so getting fluids into him is vital.

Dont worry about the eating, especially if he is drinking milk. Fluids much more important.
Worry when he is not weeing every 4 hours approx and going 6-8 hours dry. Is becoming unusually drowsy.
Keep going with small frequent amounts of milk.
Look at NICE guidelines on gastro enteritis as the danger signs for dehydration are under that title I think.

thanks a lot, that helps. i am still breastfeeding, so getting some liquids into him that way, but impossible to tell how much. I'll check out the guidelines.

that's great that you're still bf as your milk will line his little tummy with a protective barrier and help against the harshness of antib's. Try to increase the bf if you can - fab and the best thing for him whilst he's ill. It's got all the sugars he needs too.
