No advice- my DD has a stubborn patch which just won't shift.. I have tried the shampoo stuff, don't much fancy the olive oil now her hair is longer. It doesn't bother her so will watch to see if anyone has any good tips-fingers crossed!

my ds four had this last month. I put olive oil on scalp and combed out with very fine comb. I also washed with oilatum scalp shampoo (can get in chemist) and it went within a week. hope that helps

My DS who is now 4 has had this for a good year I have tried everything (olive oil, specialist creams, dentinox, head and shoulders) all to no effect.

A couple of nights ago I was putting baby oil on my legs and noticed it said suitable for craddle cap so gave it a try.

I massaged it in and left for about an hour and then combed it out with a nitty gritty comb. It didn't hurt him but he did need to be distracted with cartoons and a bar of chocolate.

Some of his hair came out and he has a little bald patch but for the moment at least nota trace of craddle cap.

(oh and he has quite long hair so I did have to wash his hair at least 4 times before all traces of greasiness disappeared!)

My answer to cradle cap is Savlon. Very mild medicated cream means it doesn't sting, while promoting healing, loosening dry flakes, and not disgustingly greasy like olive oil. Apply at night and rub into the scalp well. Leave overnight, comb out any dry skin very gently next day and then rinse the hair with water at bathtime. Repeat until problem cleared up.

Thanks for the responses - sorry for the hijack lifesucks! I will give the savlon a go, its the only thing I haven't tried yet - how long did it take to work?

Chil1234 · 31/05/2010 12:09

It was remarkably quick in my son's case. A few days the first time. Next time there was so much as a hint of flaky skin, on went the Savlon and it cleared up much more quickly. It's the fact that there is no greasy residue that I like... no need for detergents.

Savlon in our house is nicknamed 'magic cream'. Has been used for everything from cradle-cap to nappy rash to grazed knees and insect bites. Remarkably versatile.
