how often would be 'normal' for these to happen????

Hi my ds is 5 and also suffers from spontaneous nosebleeds. 99 percent of his stop in a couple of mins max (he is a bit of a picker) but earlier this week he had 2 in one day, one being a big one. Now weather cooler again, it's stopped. I was going to take him to drs in half term as you can get nasal sprays etc to help. I started marking it in thecalendar when he has one and it's not as often as I thought, averaging one a month, but they seem to have increased with the heat which I gather is normal for some children. I put Vaseline up his nose too to provide a barrier and it has helped.

Vaseline???? How does that work then? I shall try it though. I also think I should keep a diary too.

Simple nosebleeds often occur following a cold or hayfever. What happens is that the little blood vessels at the top of the nose dry out, become inflamed/irritated and break very easily. If hayfever, treat with anti histimine. Vaseline up the top of the nose can help hydrate these dry areas and prevent breakages. Also vaseline lower down may trap irritants like pollen and stop some of the nasal running common in hayfever.

Hello, are you asleep?

Aren't you glad you asked ?

My DS 4 has nose bleeds due to hayfever they start march and run through to end of summer. he is prescribed antihistamine to help control them and that works well. However he is a real little picker and most night bleeds is down to his picking.
I was really concerned when they first appeared but now I know it's down to hayfever It's manageable, in fact yesterday we were travelling and he missed a dose of his medicine and I was up at 3am with him (blood all over hotel sheets ).
