Bedroom to cold for baby?

I am in New Zealand not balmy UK. It is 8 degrees in my bedroom where I am sitting in bed with a hat, two pairs of PJs, wool duvet and an electric blanket. The baby is due in six weeks and I don't know how I will keep him warm at night unless I sleep on the sofa with the wood burner going all night. No ... insulation, double glazing and central heating are unheard of here. This is considered normal. I think maybe people have their babies in bed with them more here?
What to do?

Now live in the UK, but had 3 winter babies in NZ. What worked well for us was an oil-filled heater on a thermostat. That kept the bedroom at a constant warmer temperature. I must admit, love my central heating in the UK.

I'd go with 'warm night-wear' personally. I'm was a December baby raised in a draughty, Victorian terraced house in Manchester (a lot colder than 8C I'd say) and I survived just fine in a carry-cot. Get hold of a baby sleeping bag... the zip-around quilted type with arms in it... so that baby is never uncovered at night. Hat and mittens for the extremities. Extra blanket tucked down the sides as a precaution. Toasty!
