Ear Infection

DD was complaining of a bad ear yesterday and had milky fluid coming out. No fever (good as suffers from febrile convulsions). Phoned gp and could only get consultation over the phone and got prescription from them for amoxycillin. DD has started this and this morning has woken up with fluid pouring out of ear. More yellow now. Is there anything else I need to do? Do the docs need to look at it or just a case of letting antibiotics do there job now?

It sounds like a burst eardrum, but I'd still get it checked.

If it's "pouring" you need to see a Dr.

morning. we've had exactly the same this last week. Antib's should start working soon, and you can also give calpol/nurofen either alternately or together...(nurofen three times a day, calpol four times a day).
I'm not an expert in these things but the fluid may mean that her ear drum has burst (this is what has happened with my DD). Do you think she's hearing you as well as normal? If not that would confirm it. I've been told that my DD's hearing will return in the next 4-6 weeks, and not to take her swimming .
If any doubts at all, take her back to the GP.
good luck - lots of sympathy for you

Yes have not had heart to tell her she wont be able to go to her swimming lesson on Sunday.

Hearing seems ok. Always a bit selective . Appears ok. Just going to check temp. Hair all sticky where it has obviously leaked in the night.
Due to go to playdate at someones house. Not sure if should do that either.

horrible isn't it.
we've had to move the rest of her term to next term so that we don't lose the money.. and i'm SO sad because for the first time she was really bonding with the teacher and actually enjoying the lessons
poor us mummynumnum!!

I haven't had the time to research it but apparently you can get ear plugs for swimming - i'm just not sure of how old they can be. I'll do some googling now

MummyElk · 26/05/2010 08:12

here but i would check with a chemist or someone.
i'm going to try and find out more today anyway so will let you know.
i'd go to the playdate - she'll need cheering up. i don't think these things are contagious. my DD was best when preoccupied!!
