my ds 6yr is constantly complaining that he is hungry no matter what he eats,he usually has porridge for breakfast, a snack at 10.30 ish (fruit/veg), packed lunch (sandwich or pasta, crackers, cucumber, toms and a yoghurt or fruit or some times crisps) he then has a cooked meal at about 4.30 - 5. 10 mins after dinner he is asking for more cos he feels hungry. but about 6.30 i give in but only allow him to have apple/banana. but he still wants more surly this is not normal, is it??

That doesnt sound too much my DD2 (2) Today ate:
7:30 Large bowl porridge banana and currents
Apple on walk to school
9:30 2 slices of toast with honey another apple
10:30 Sliced up kiwi fruit rice cake with peanut butter.
12: Lunch ham sandwich. cherry toms cucumber slices yoghurt and jelly. small cake
13:30 bag of crisps.
cereal bar whilst waiting in the playground.
15:45 apple banana and melon mix with crispbread.
17:00 homemade pizza and oven chips
ice lolly for puds

just had some more toast as still hungry.

She is 2, cycles to school to drop of and pick up siblings drinks plenty of water during the day and is alwyas on the go so I know its not because she's thirsty or bored and there isnt an ounce of fat on her. Just loves food like her mother

As long as they eat their main meals and arent just eating junk I dont see how its a problem - annoying yes and costs a fortune but better that than a fussy kid that wont eat.

thats a relief! (except for the cost!!) poor kid now he sounds half starved!!!

My son (9) has always gone through phases of either not being too bothered about food or being totally unfillable. Agree with the above, if they're active and eating plenty of good food rather than sugary junk then you'll not go far wrong.

One tip.. try adding more protein and fat to their diet because both are quite filling. Something like scrambled eggs or peanut butter on toast for breakfast sticks around longer than just toast on its own, for example.

DS2 is 6. Today he has/will have eaten:

Breakfast #1 at home: 2 Weetabix and a banana
Breakfast #2 at school breakfast club: 1 weetabix and a slice of toast
Lunch: he has school dinners, today it is a full roast plus pudding. He will probably have seconds.
Mid afternoon: an apple
After school: a small snack eg fruit, breadsticks, toast
Supper: tonight we are having moroccan chicken with couscous and flatbreads. He will eat a huge plate full. Then probably have some fruit.

His 7 year old brother is the same, in fact he probably eats more. But they are active and growing, so they need the calories!
