Hello. I'm going to take my 11 week old to GP tomorrow to get her neck checked out but her neck always seems to be leaning to her right.. Any input and experience with it very welcome as I'm very worried about it.

Hi bluecats - Congratulations. Difficult to know what is up without seeing her and checking muscle tone etc.

I assume from "always" this is something that has been going on for a while and not just today. If it is sudden onset then obviously take her straight to A& E.

Did you have a difficult birth? Sometimes that can cause a problem, but to honest there is little point speculating. Speak to your doctor and come back if you are unsure about the information you get.

You will need to do exercises with your baby to get her to use her neck fully.

My DD had wryneck when she was about 8 months old. It came in conjunction with a virus that she got. It was strange but it went in about 10days. When I took her to the doctor he explained that sometimes children get this with a virus and not to worry unless it lasted longer then 2 weeks.

I did notice since she was born that her head is slightly to her right..but I just assumed maybe that it was just more comfortable for her and she would grow out of it. Now that she is holding up her head, it's very obvious. I thought maybe it's because I carry her around in a sling..?? I will let you know tomorrow what the GP says.

Thanks for the article. I did feel for the muscle, but she doesn't like me touching her neck at all...perhaps it's painful?? Let me know how it goes with chiropractor. Maybe I'll get her seen as well as we are going away in July and hopefully it will be all right by then. How old is your son?

Ds 3 had wry neck, the physio sessions at the hospital was useless as were the exercises, didn't help one jot.
In the end I took him to Bowen technique sessions. Don't trust the NHS to do it properly, look into alternative treatments. Whatever you do don't just hope it will go away, the chances are it won't.
