DS is six months, having a bad day with teeth and just flung himself back with such force he banged his head on the radiator. He cried for a few seconds, but now seems okay, is talking away on my lap. There's a little red mark but its going down and hasn't cut the skin. Do I need to do anything?

Feel very bad

I would put a cold compress on it.

This is one situation where NHS direct comes into its own. We called last week for a similar situation and they have a whole list of questions they run you through before making a recommendation (for us; no need to take this further). I'd give them a call.

How hard did he bang his head?
Does he cry if you touch the spot?

It's tough to say from what you've put here so maybe NHS Direct is a good call (although 99% of time I'm of the opinion they're useless.

Put cold cloth on the red mark and keep an eye on him, try not to let him fall asleep for a while to make sure he`s not concused.. wont be the last bump he gets im sure

SirBoobAlot · 25/05/2010 14:09

Will a wet flannel do? Not sure what a compress is Have got one of those on at the moment. He's currently chuckling because its running down his back.

The red spot is almost gone now, its only because its in his bald patch I can see it at all. Not bothered by me touching it at all.

He threw himself back maybe 7cm? So not hugely hard, more a shock for both of us than anything, I think. Doesn't seem to be bothering him too much.

How do I make sure he's not concused? Do I need to stop him eating etc?

dont stop him eating, if hes not being sick and falling asleep straight away he should be fine.. all kids bang their heads at some point im sure he will be fine

CoteDAzur · 25/05/2010 14:17

He cried right away. He is not drowsy. He doesn't have dark "panda" rings around his eyes.

He will be fine

SirBoobAlot · 25/05/2010 14:36

Got cut off from NHS Direct, but he is now sleep - its nap time around now. Can I try and get him to sleep or is it best to keep him awake?

Sorry had to go get kids from school, I take it he is asleep, he should be fine, dont worry if he had concusion he would`ve been sleepy or sick straight after the bump..

SirBoobAlot · 25/05/2010 16:12

Thank you He slept for about five minutes (he is the magical non-sleeping baby after all ) and now seems fine - back to the screeching as pre-bump! Thanks all.
